New TDVL Holder

Hi all,

I just got my TDVL and am going to shoot some questions here, seeking for advise but before that, I'll do a short introduction about myself.

I'm 33, M, chinese, currently working as a Project Manager in Oil & Gas field but is super under paid, 7 day AL with no benefits (no medical, no dental, using my own handphone at my own cost, etc). Not complaining anyway as I'm helping my friend with his business.

I'm looking into becoming a Hirer as my current company is closing down soon. My career is very rocky since last year until now... I've been jobless for almost 6 months last year and that is why I went to take up TDVL course.

I'm really at lost if I should continue my path in my current field or should just go be a TD...

Anyway I go further into my decision, after reading online for information on taking up TD as a career path and various taxi companies, I need to seek advise here for some questions below:

1. What is the duration in between for vehicle servicing (change EO in this case) for a full time Hirer,

a. with relief driver

b. without relief driver

2. Talking about choosing taxi company, is it a major criteria to find which company is near to where you are staying? Does it affects a big deal whenever you need to go back to their workshop for maintenance?

3. If I'm going for full time TD as a hirer, I'm considering between CDG sonata or SMRT epica. Any advise for this?

4. If I'm going for part time TD (and find a 5 day full time job), I heard of a private company in clementi renting out silver cab without needing to pay for the security fee. Is it true that regardless if you are creator or victim in a car accident, you need to pay for the excess fee? What is the pro & cons?

5. What is the minimum period for being a Hirer to rent a taxi? I can't find any information so far...

I need to know more facts, pro & cons before deciding what to do next... I sincerely apologise if anyone finds me too naggy or long winded. I'm just scared to make a choice and so I need to find out in details.

I will find time to go to a few taxi companies and find out what benefits, requirements, etc from each individual and I can do a comparison from there.

Thanks in advance for any guru here to help me with my questions.aww

seems that there is no one available or able to help me with my queries... anyway, I've settled down and going for comfort taxi, and will be getting my vehicle in mid-march.

yup, I've replied to you there too. hehe

Upon interview at CDG, they have offer me the choice of selection for the type of vehicle.

First, she told me that new TDVL holder cannot take new vehicle, and can only choose vehicle that is 3 years old & above.
then she ask me if I want toyota crown (manual) or hyundai sonata (auto). I replied I want sonata, then she say I have to choose the age range, such as 3~4yrs, 4~5yrs, 5~6yrs, etc.
I opt for 3~4yrs, and she asked if I'm okay with advertisement on roof top (vehicle height will be higher), I'm fine with that too.
Finally she ask me if I prefer Comfort (blue) or Citicab (yellow), and I go for Comfort.

Finished with the selection, I was informed that I need to go for 3 courses in total before getting my vehicle:
1. automatic transmission course (unless you have proof of driving auto car recently)
2. MDT & Cashless device course (MID_Norm)
3. Basic Service Training Course for Hirer (BST)

I see!
I will be getting my vehicle in early April.
It will be a new epica from Smrt. At Smrt only need to go for 1 course before getting the vehicle.

oh nice ;)
we can share our experience in our own company after a few month's time. :p

which course is that? the MDT course?

as for the comfort's BST course, certificate will be issued after completion. not a must but something nice to have. :)

Was not informed to attend the MDT course yet. But i think it will be complusory for all hirers.
The course which i am told to attend will be something to do with customer service. Not too sure if there will be any certificates issued though.
