SMRT FIRED THE CAB DRIVER THAT ENDANGERED THE LIFE OF A BIKER ON THE ROAD

Updated as at 5.30pm, Sep 3, 2014

SMRT has issued a statement on its Facebookpagethat the person behind the wheel of SMRT Prius taxi SHC4090C was a relief taxi driver, and his contract has been terminated today (Sep 3).

SMRT said the taxi driver's contract was terminated after their investigations of the incident was complete.

The company also said the cabby, who was earlier been assigned to the vehicle with car plate SHC4090C, still continues to drive that vehicle.

They seek the public's understanding that this driver has nothing to do with the relief driver who was involved in the incident shown in the video.

Here is SMRT's statement on Facebook:

Hi everyone, We view with concern the video of an SMRT Prius taxi, number plate SHC4090C, that has been shared via social media.

The incident shown on the video is regrettable. We thank netizens for bringing the matter to our attention yesterday (2 September 2014), and we immediately investigated the matter.

Our investigation revealed that the relief driver of SHC9040C was behind the wheel at the time of the incident.

The relief driver¡¯s contract with SMRT Taxis was terminated today (3 September 2014) upon completion of our investigation into the matter.

As the taxi partner assigned SHC4090C still drives this vehicle, we seek your understanding that this driver has nothing to do with the relief driver behind the incident shown on the video.

We trust that the taxi partner will continue to be allowed to earn a living driving SHC4090C.

SMRT remains fully committed to upholding a high standard of service for our commuters and will continue to drive home the importance of customer service to all our staff. Thank you.

A taxi driver was caught on camera being a road bully to a motorcyclist by swerving dangerously onto another lane without signaling.

In the video posted by Facebook user Alan Kong, the taxi driver was apparently swerving in and out of a lane for around five minutes.

According to Alan, he said the driver was trying to make the biker hit him. In the comments section, netizens have said that the behaviour was dangerous and urged him to report this incident to the police.

He said: "As a ex-biker, I feel that we cannot tolerate this kind of behaviour on the road.

"As for the fellow bikers on the road, please remember we are vulnerable on the road.

"It might not be the fault of the biker but the biker always gets the injury."
