Saturday morning was not a good start to the weekend for 10 drivers. They were arrested by the police for drink-driving in an islandwide operation.
Around midnight, roadblocks were set up along Newton Road, Bukit Timah Road, Outram Road and Republic Boulevard.
And at 2.30am, roadblocks were put up along Church Street, South Bridge Road, North Canal Road and New Bridge Road to ring-fence the area's cluster of entertainment and drinking haunts.
A total of 68 motorists took the breathalyser test. The 10 arrested were all men aged between 22 and 51.
The highest breathalyser result clocked was 78 microgrammes of alcohol per 100ml of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35 microgrammes.
The latest arrests bring the total number of people caught for drink driving this year to 2,577.
Another 29 people received summons for speeding and other traffic-related offences.
Those convicted of drink-driving will be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months.
First-time offenders can be fined up to $5,000 or jailed for up to six months, while repeat offenders may get a maximum fine of $30,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to three years.
