Driver barred from taking company bookings for a month, says SMRT

An SMART taxi driver, whom STOMPer Gigi said brought her to a Police Post instead of her requested destination, has been given a stern warning and barred from taking company bookings for one month.

Earlier, STOMPer Gigi had recounted the unpleasant taxi ride which she had with her boyfriend on Oct 25.

She said the driver started yelling and being rude after they pointed out that he took a longer route. He subsequently drove them to a Neighbourhood Police Centre.

In an e-mail cced to STOMP(4 Nov), SMART says:

"Dear Ms Gigi,

"We would like to bring your attention to the feedback raised against our driver - SHB7192C on the 25 October 2008 at 2130 hrs.

"We would like to inform you that we have concluded our investigation and would like to highlight that we have taken the necessary action against the driver.

"Our driver highlighted that the junction located outside of Downtown East is normally congested on weekends night and as an added service to his customer, he tried to take a route that is less congested. As an experienced driver he is certain that it was faster and more economical.

"Our code of conduct for all our drivers is to provide the best and safest service to our customer. After the argument started, our driver felt worried that it was causing him to loose his concentration on the road. He
proceeded to a nearby Police Post in the interest of our customer's safety and felt that having a mediator will help in this case.

"Nonetheless, we have advised the driver that in future he should explain the situation to the passenger clearly to avoid misunderstanding and to avoid a similar situation as this. The driver has also been informed about the importance of providing good service and to be courteous at all times. We have issued him a stern warning and barred him from taking any company bookings for a period of one month. As this is his first negative feedback, he is currently placed under close supervision.

"We assure you that his future complaint will not be taken lightly. We appreciate your feedback and apologise for the unpleasant experience that you encountered.

"Looking forward to serve you better."

for me, i dont like to argue. whether the pax was intentionary or unintentionally to
cheat the few dollars, if the route i used is questioned, i would juz say ' oh sorry, i'll cut
the fare after the journey'. the fire will be ceased. biggrin.gif

I pick up a man in his 30 with his father from dover road to jurong central 1. After i enter dover rise, he said i used the wrong route or long route. i say i can make a u-turn if u think it is wrong or long. He say ok, carry on with this route.

Along commonwealth west heading towards clementi road. Fare was $4.20.

Passenger : if i had u the route i normally travel, it is only $3.00
Me : i keep Quite
Passenger : He also Quiet.
Me : So how much you normally pay to reach your destination?
Passenger : About $9 +
Me : Ok, then u pay what you use to pay
Pssenger : Quiet

Reach destination, fare was $9.50

Have i travel wrong or long route?? Or was he trying his luck to cheat us?

I gave 20 cents discount to him and ask me to print out a recipt.....

Eh bro fairfare,

I think passenger is right that going by Braddell Road, Bartley Road is shorter to get to KIm Chuan. His only problem is he probably didn't know the name of Lornie Road and he didn't tell you to use Braddell Road. I always use this route to get from West to either AMK, Upper Serangoon Road, Hougang.

So chin chai lah. Give and take. He learnt a lesson and you learn another lesson. smile.gif

Bro fairfare,

Patience is the name of the game in cab driving. Nevertheless, it's not right to shout at a person, in this case, the passenger. smile.gif
