Some Advice Needed

Hi all,

Need some advice, my current take home pay is about $1800 after CPF. Am thinking of taking up full time taxi driving.

Read from Newspapers that the current market demand for taxis have been affected by the economical slowdown. I would like to find out will I be able to earn more that what I am currently earning?

All response and advise are greatly appreciated.

$1800 take home means salary approx $2300, employer contributes $350 monthly for you as well. Got holiday, annual leave and bonus.... etc. FT taxi income may be similar but no holiday, take personal urgent leave or sick can't drive also need to pay rental, bad mood drive easy kena accident... (touch wood).

Well spoken Bro....

I always believe you must have the passion and drive .... without them...you'll be lost and lack the motivation to continue your journey...

Johnny Johnny Johnny......
Try being a part time cabbie first lah....
Drive on weekend or your free time, get to know the trade more and then decide for yourself.
Some make $3/day, some make $30/day, some even say they make $300/day, you have to find out you fall under which category lor....

Well, visions and dreams keep ppl alive
But not asking you live to dream or dream to live hor biggrin.gif

Its good to give you the workings as to how bros here derive at whatever figure

This figures listed below is just a guideline

Income

Normal hours
Newbies - 17 ~ 20 an hour
Mid Experience - 22 ~ 25 an hour
Lao Chiao - 28 ~ 30 an hour

Peak Hours
Newbies - 22 ~ 25 an hour
Mid Experience - 28 ~ 32 an hour
Lao Chiao - 35 ~ 40 an hour

Bad hours
can be as low as 5 ~ 10 an hour

Nonproductive hours(doing God Knows What !)
0 an hour

Cost
Rental (sonata) 104 full day (2 shifts) , 52 half day (1 shift)
(crown) - different age differece price, for these exercise, I leave this option out
cos most newbies would prefer auto due to my observation
Diesel - 1 shift (12 hours) abt 30 ~ 35 dep on mileage covered 2 shifts 50 ~ 60 (you can't possibly drive 24 hours can you ?)
Wash vehicle 3 ~4 or FOC depends on who washes it
Parking - I leave this out , but you must know to or be good to siam all parking fines evileye.gif
ERP est 5 for 1 shift 10 for 2 shifts (depend on timing you chose to drive)
Others - makan , ciggies, kopi, I leave these out biggrin.gif

If you drive 1 shift, normally we factor 11 hours as calculation, cos 1 hr need to wash vehicle pump diesel handover to hirer / relief
Let's assume you manage to achieve 2 peak hrs, 4 normal hours 2 bad hours 1 nonproductive hour, 1 hour lunch / dinner and finally 1 hour Kopi (if you join bros here biggrin.gif )
So income work out to be 140.00
less cost abt 90.00
Total income for the day is 50.00
This is calculation for newbies, smelly smelly oso should get the above
(disclaimer - if you can't achieve the above, don't blame me hor biggrin.gif)
Experience bros need not say lar, they have their own formula

2 shift depending on how good luck (as in hardworking) you are, pls note that you can't possibily drive 24 hour , do your own sums biggrin.gif

Hi Johnny,

No one can warrant you definite income other than if you are under employment whereby you would enjoy regular Working hours, CPF, Pay Leaves, Medical Leave, Medical care etc. The set back may be the lack of freedom.

Taxi driving require a lot of focus and hard work as to make a decent income and living you must be driving the "X" number of hours as bare minimum since the first 3 or 5~6 hours that you drive are for paying to the company for the rental and the next 1 hours or so are for paying for the fuel and you meals. Then your income starts to kick in but....that will also depend on if you are experience, your sense and your luck.

If you go through topics in our forum you would have pick up a lot more information good and bad of the trade.

Happy serving and look forward to hear more from you.

What do you guys think of the below OMO timmings:

6am - 9am (3 hrs) : Drive, making all the use of peak hour surcharge

9am - 11am : rest/sleep/breakfast/lunch

11pm - 2pm (3 hrs) : Drive, lunch time crowd

2pm - 5pm : Rest/Sleep

5pm - 9pm (4 hr) : Drive, peak hr surchage

9pm - 11pm : Rest/dinner

11pm - 4am (5 hr): drive, midnite charge

4am - 6am : rest/sleep

Total working hours 15hrs, making most of all the peak hours. And it will be on a weekday. Weekend sat rest till start driving at 3pm to 3am (Sun) and Sun drive 9am - 9pm.

Am I being unrealistic? cause nvr try b4 and thinking of trying it once i got my VDL, if cannot tahan, den will look for relief....

And Yes, I like and have passion for driving.

Fine tune along the way..there is no perfect model

This business is very dynamic and you have to go with the flow....
