Cabby refuses to stop, then claims we damage taxi when we tap on boot A cabby, who did not indicate that he was busy, hired or on call on his toplight, refused to stop for a STOMPer and her friend, and even claimed they damaged the boot of his taxi.
STOMPer Michelle says:
"The Comfort taxi driver, indicating that he was heading towards WoodLands on a piece of paper, did not turn on the Hired, Busy or On Call sign when we flagged for his taxi.
"As he drove past us, my friend tapped on the taxi's boot to inform the cabby that we were going to Woodlands.
"The taxi then stopped and the driver came out shouting at us.
"I called the police to lodge a report, and in the midst of my report, the taxi driver drove over to the stationary police car parked opposite the road and reported that we kicked his vehicle and caused damage to it.
"How can the fuel tank cover be damaged when my friend only tapped on the boot?"
The STOMPer says she hopes the police will investigate the matter to see if they had really done damage to the taxi -------------------------------------------000000000000000------------------------------ TU or anyone can help?...i've uploaded a pic via flickr...but i cant seem to copy & paste into this posting

Did u read the forum page in ST on 2 Feb. The writer Mr Raymund Koh says that he & his family waited for a cab @ 9.30 along Orchard Road after dinner @ International Building on 24 Jan possibly the location was in front of Lido. There were many pax and also many available cab cruising by and not stopping for them. He & his family later gave up and took a bus. He also observed that the cabs were heading to Lucky Plaza, Centre Point & Cineleisure to pick up pax that pay him Peak Period City Surcharge. What is your opinion. Are taxi drivers unethical as he claims.
Well my take is that the taxi uncles did not break any rules here. In fact they were acting professionally in this instance. Firstly LTA encourages taxis to pick up pax @ designated areas like taxi stands and building lobbies or streets that have no bus operation there. They (mr Koh & fly) were @ the edge of busy road along the city fringe during the peak period. The taxis have the option to pick or reject them based on their judgement. The taxi uncles and aunties were also going to The proper taxi stands and safe areas, as mentioned in the letter, to do their business. Secondly, the taxi companies imposes a peak period City surcharge to encourage taxis to ply the city area to meet demand. This is exactly what we must expect otherwise the levy will have to increase to be effective.
The culprits here are the passengers. For Mr Koh there are 3 taxi stands within stone's throw from where they stood. Namely @ Orchard Towers, Far East Shopping Centre and Shaw Centre.
I went to the ST Forum discussion page and read even more bashings though there were some sympathisers. I feel that Taxi Operators Asspcaitions should speak up for the drivers in situation like this where if we dont analyse carefully the taxi drivers are made devils though there are other instances they are right. May be TaxiUncles Club can represent the taxi community and educate the public on this.
Bro William, thanks for the encouraging words. 1st, base on what you read in the ST forum, you'll notice that most response are on our side, hence the public has spoken. 2nd, complaints like this stack higher than our Swissotel Stamford everyday, it becomes a routine. We don't act doesn't mean we don't care, as cabbies, our time are very precious, therefore petty complain is something we deal with everyday on the spot. We educate by word of mouth, explain to our pax why is the situation like this, using personal experiences and sincerity to help the public understand. William, thanks again for your kind suggestion. Rest assure that STC will not keep quiet if there's a need arise. Hope to see you in the forum more often. Cheers!!
