Be fair & lower cab surcharge during economic downturn

Be fair and lower cab surcharge during economic downturn

STOMPer Snicky Dee finds it unfair that despite the economic downturn in Singapore, the 35% peak hour surcharge for taxis still remains.

This STOMPer feels that it is time for the surcharge to be lowered. He says:

"When petrol/diesel prices were at its record high, a 35% surcharge was introduced to recover the cost from the customer.
"Now crude oil prices have dropped to a record low, but the surcharge still remains.

"This morning(19 Feb) I had to take a cab from the east to Tuas (I normally drive) and my taxi bill was $48 (meter fare was $36) and $12 was the peak hour surcharge.

"If I am not wrong the previous surcharge was just $1-2, which means my taxi bill has gone up by at least $10! It is a 20% increase!

"I do not think this is fair with the current economic downturn and people suffering so much. Many people depend on taxis and I think it is high time this surcharge was removed."

Mr Dee - our fare is fairfare...if people suffering why take a cab har??? You think cabbies wont suffer if fares are lowered???

Wah lau! Siao ah this bugger. KNN. Public transport only drop a few miserable cents and this Snicky bugger want taxis to lower a few dollars worth of surcharge. He better have his head examined.

Apparently he failed to understand the reason for the variety of surcharges. He also don't know that diesel prices were way way above the current price before PTC allow taxi fares to be adjusted upwards.

He also forgot that the previous surcharge of 2 miserable dollars or was it $1, is not enough to entice cab drivers to enter CBD and pay for the ERP ourself.

I do, however, agree that the diesel surcharge can now be removed. Can any bro update if it has already be removed?

Bro TDO, the fuel surcharge of 30cts had long been abolished. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about and he's exactly the kind of customer that we don't need. Furthermore he's failed his maths miserably. I don't see where he get his 20% increase figure from.

Sometimes I wonder if these people writing in to forum are real ! How come I wrote in, never got printed ?

Or if when taxi association wants to lower fares to make drivers burn and suffer in slavery ! So they fire a few testing shots to the forum .Thereafter they start to implement it without the consent of taxi drivers !

As it happens we as taxi drivers should appoint middle men to handle all our calls at our rates. Everyone who wants this service have to come down personally for full particular detailing.

Our fare structure in itself is an exploitation of taxi drivers.
You can never out earn yourself or others much !

Anyone knows the ones responsible for such policies ?
