Confession of Taxi Driver

Content was from CNA forum not sure about the reliablity but worth to share......

Posted: Mon Mar 09, 2009 10:27 pm Post subject: Confessions of a Taxi Driver!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't recall all the noteworthy incidents of my ten year career like as if it's flashing pass before my eyes in the final seconds before death. I won't be able to put it in chronological order. It will have to come in snippets.

Let's start with the niteclubs and KTVs in the Havelock Road Area!

Let me tell you for a fact that most of the PRC girls working as hostesses in these establishments all share rented apartments in River Valley Close. It's conveniently close by and cheap on transport cost.

We would gulp down our disappointment when we pick them their fare as it's a slow and meandering queque to pick up passengers. Some taxi drivers, the real scums will show their displeasure by driving in a manner far from comfortable for their passengers. The trip would cost them only about six dollars inclusive of midnight charges and they usually share taxis! What we were hoping for were niteclub patrons bringing these girls to Hotel 81s in Geylang where we can pick more of after sex customers!

One drizzling afternoon, it was at River Valley Close outside an old apartment building that I picked up a PRC mei mei (as a fare) of course!

She told me in English to go to Geylang East. I proceeded at that. On the way, a few questions in English was asked of me in her atrocious English which I cannot recall. But knowing and admiring the PRCs' desire to learn English , I obliged as much as I could.

Upon arriving in the Geylang East area, I queried about the exact destination. She mangled her instructions so badly that i could not figure out at all where she wanted to go.

Suddenly right in the middle of a cross junction, she shouted at me to make a right turn, although startled, I did not as it would had been dangerous to do so. I then stopped at the side and told her to speak to me in Mandarin if she is not well versed with English! That set her off and the following exchange in Mandarin took place.....

PRC : "Why must I speak to you in Mandarin when I can speak English?"

Me: "But I can't understand you! Look, you know I'm Chinese, why won't you use Chinese with me?"

PRC : "Your kind of standard people will never be able to get out of your status of being a low class taxi driver."

Me : Yes, you are right, I made a grave mistake in my schooling years by not being more diligent in my studies. Thank you for your admonishments!

PRC : (She threw a ten dollar note between my front seats, for a fare of $9.50, as she was getting out of the taxi) "What are you Singaporeons so arrogant about. In about ten years you will all have to depend on our "Da Chung Kuo' (Great China)!"

Me: (I grabbed the ten dollar note she threw and got out of my taxi walk towards her. She had this wide eyed look and must had been thinking I was about to assault her.) " You China Cheebye! I can accept your humiliation of my person but I will not allow you to humiliate me as a citizen of my country or my country for that matter. And to show you that I do have pride as a person and of my country, I will not accept your money which you threw at me!" [I threw the ten dollar at her face and drove off]

Later as when I was calmer, I was thinking, oh poo another "lim kopi session with the complains department again." But either she had not taken down my licence plate or she decided that she had had enough.

Sad to read this. I bet to differ, in school being more diligent doesn't gurantee success in carrer.

The prc lady should beware since it was from your mouth "Your kind of standard people will never be able to get out of your status of being a low class chick".

Last nite pick up a jap male from John Han**** taxistand, it was during evening peak hour around 7.45pm.
Pax say want to go Jalan Besar, a hotel near Kitchener Rd.
Taking into consideration that the river line ERP still in operation, i go by the ECP as the ERP charge is cheaper.

When i was heading to the ECP, the pax ask me:"why u go by this way, this way is going to the ECP?"
I said:" yes, it's going to the ECP, it will be faster by this way instead of going through all the traffic lights."
He said:" No, this is not the right way."
Me:" Then which is right way?"
Jap:" I dono, you are the taxi driver, you should know, but i know this is not the right way."
Me:"????" (lim peh cha tam po jam break tell him lo chia)
Jap:" ok ok, maybe this way better, you go."
Me take a deep breath and said:" Sir, later you see."

Go so nearby only already sibei sianz liao, kena such an accusation by a foreigner some more, really tun buay lo.
When 100m away from the destination, he said:" Ah...you are right, this way better, faster."
I just keep quiet, collect the fare and move on.
Next better player pls...

Bro, but I notice JH taxi stand got alot of problematic pax, my experience with pax from this taxi stand is 8 out of 10 either problematic or super short distance trip. So now I avoided this taxi stand totally. Furthermore, the double white line at the stand also create many problem with pax insisting that I should go straight instead of turning right!

All bros,

Though it may be good intention, try asking passenger the preferred route before moving off. This will avoid unnecessary accusations. If passenger is not clear, tell him/her your intended route. smile.gif
