Dishonest cabby cheats me by taking the roundabout route

Dishonest cabbie cheats me by taking the roundabout route

STOMPer Peter S said the taxi driver who took him on a longer route, only offered to take $3 off from his fare only after hearing him talking on the phone to check on the most appropriate route.

Said the STOMPer:

"Today (Mar 31), at around 12.45am, I took an NTUC COMFORT taxi, licence plate number SHB 4060 from Golden Mile to Hougang Avenue 8.

"The driver did not ask me which way I preferred.

"He then went by Nicole Highway then KPE.

"Then he passed by Paya Lebar exit, and came out from Bartley East exit.

"Along the way, he went through Kaki Bukit Industrial Park then Eunos Link, then Hougang Avenue 3.

"Before Hougang Avenue 3, I saw the Paya Lebar exit and I asked the driver, 'Uncle, why just now you didn't come out from Paya Lebar then Hougang Avenue 3?'

"He replied: 'Paya Lebar route not so smooth. Bartley East better'.

"I replied: 'But like this seems like we go one big round already?'

"But the taxi driver did not reply.

"So I called my friend (also a taxi driver) to check which route he would have taken from Golden Mile to Hougang Avenue 8.

"After the driver heard what I said to my friend, immediately, he offered me a $3 deduction from the total fair.

"The bottom line is that this driver was trying to cheat me.

"This is really a disgrace to all the taxi drivers in Singapore.

"Hope the authorities will do something about this kind of dishonest drivers."

He should have exited at Tampines Road if he's taking the TPE.

I do not think is fair to label this TD as cheat, it just a different route taken. The pax can indicate which way he prefered since he is so particular of the fares.

Sometimes we drive till we miss the exit and this can be the scenario for this TD.
TD miss Paya Lebar exit so the next exit will be Bartley Road East.
It's quite common that we make this mistake but as long we admit in the first place and offer to deduct a little from the total fare, i don't think pax will question us much.
If pax still KPKB, then you offer to drive them back to where you pick them up from FOC and ask them take another cab lo....

That cabby shud have apologized for taking the wrong exit and the matter would have been ok . I often take wrong exits ..smetime purposely sometime unwittingly but I always apologized and clain to be Newbie lah. Often the pax will give me a lesson on which route to take ... Free lesson and getting paid too...How about that??

Come out from Payer Lebar no need u-turn to airport road then Hougang Ave3 ??? If yes, consider cheating??? Beach Rd to Hougang take Nicol->KPE is only for pax who wants fast, direct and smooth ride otherwise thru Serangoon Rd much cheaper but why not consider MRT?

If pax requires going Hougang thru KPE I sure exit Tampines Road then HougA7 or HougA3.
