Videos prove some cabbies cheating customers by taking a longer route

Videos prove some cabbies cheating customers by taking longer routes
STOMPer Iris was shocked when she came across these online videos of taxi drivers¡®cheating¡¯ customers by taking the longer route.

In these videos, customers boarded taxis and told the taxi drivers to drive to a particular destination. The customers then used mobile GPS devices to see if the taxi drivers were taking the shortest route.

The first trip they made was from Balestier Road to Circular Road. The distance estimated by their GPS device was 4.3km, but the actual distance travelled by the cab they were in was 6.7km, costing them $12.90.

In another video, the STOMPer and her friend wanted to go from Devonshire Road to Thomson Medical Centre in Thomson Road.

Their GPS device estimated the distance to be 2.9km, taking not more than 10 minutes to complete. However, their taxi travelled a distance of 7.3km, taking 15 minutes. The trip cost $7.80.

For their last trip from Clarke Quay to Devonshire Road, the estimated distance was 1.1km, but the actual distance travelled by the taxi they tookwas 4.4km. The STOMPer paid $11.35 for the trip.

In an email to STOMP yesterday (May 18), the STOMPer said:

¡°I came across these videos online, and I was very surprised to see that these taxi drivers were recorded taking passengers on the longer route.

¡°I'm not sure if thesewere pranks played by ¡®bo liao¡¯ people.

¡°I know some taxi drivers are not honest but still¡you have to see for yourself!¡±

i hope i can have such pax in my taxi. Then i no need headache which
routes i should go. Happy pax, happy driver. All happy.

PLS PLS PLS....i need such pax in my car.

======
To ADD
======

pretty obvious wanna test test right? simi proof....if know yet keep quiet
. really too much.

i have yet got my licence, but am very sad and detest to see such pax here.

any pax who see this thread, Singapore being small, there are too many small
roads that are able to lead to 1 specified location
. if u know, jolly well, inform
the driver, and not using a GPS to test if the driver is going the shortest route.
am sure, driver will follow.

example, my home in wdlands, there are 3 ways to go.
wdlands ave 12 or wdlands ave 2. and wdlands ave 12 alone, there are 3 different
routes. I tested myself, all 3 are more or less the same, it depends on traffic lights
and traffic flow.

sigh....

now i know why some ex- taxi-drivers of my colleague and friend
try their best not to drive full time.. or even not driving unless truly no choice.

I repeat,
IF YOU KNOW THE ROUTE, JOLLY WELL INFORM the DRIVER.

sorry, don't know why i so fumed up after seeing this article.

think i need to tune my temper...else hard to be a successful driver
having such pax here.

I'm sure these two has got nothing better to do and lots of money to spent. If so free go and do some volunteer work. Don't waste others time. I have been using GPS for almost a year and some of the routes that the GPS suggest is not driveable. Meaning illegal U turn, etc...

Can't be bothered with such pax. I always tell my pax if not happy just take the receipt and complain to the company. Anyway the route that we take are been recorded by the company for all comfort delgro taxis. I will also call driver hotline to lodge a remark for the trip just make so that if the pax really make a complain, the company will already know your side of the story.

I have already done that to a few problematic pax. And so far company only called me once and told me that the pax lodge a complain, but according to the route taken and my remark, the case was closed as "No Issue", just problematic pax.

Thus, I would suggest that for all comfort delgro cabbies, if you encounter any problems during the trip, be it bookings trip or street hired jobs, just call the hotlines and leave a remark for that particular trip. It might just get you out of trouble one day.

Because you can recall and gives exact details of the trip when you just finished the trip. But if pax complain and you need to recall a particular trip that you make few days ago, you are sure to forget some details or even about the whole trip and the benefits of doubt will comes into play.

interesting response from the public..........

"are GPS really so accurate?I am pretty sure tat road work and some traffic problem cannot be indicated in the GPS. sometimes traveling the longer path in cabs save more time then to use the shortest road tat is full of traffics lights n jam during peak hours."

"iris stop being stupid, we are only human not robots. did your parents plant a coconut in your brain ? Why don't you ask all cabbies to change their brains to computer so that they could install gps inside of them. This is stupid."

"taxi drivers are not suppose to take the shortest route to your destination. they have a standard route on which route to take to certain places. and these routes are decided by the company"

"i would say GPS dont function it very well. you think GPS could telling you the traffic lights timing, traffic jams also? scare to cheat by taxi driver then you use your own transport better."

and to sum up on that idiot pax...this is the best comment>>>>>

"take taxi, complain taxi cheat by taking longer route, take bus complain ppl too noisy or bus captain anyhow, take MRT complain ppl dun give eldery and pregnant woman sit priority seat, WTF, better stay at home and not go anywhere better la, if die die wan go out, walk better la... can save the environment..."

.................so GreenTea....coin always has two sides...go out there & face the challenges...makes life interesting...driving a cab is never a bore hahahabiggrinbiggrin

Is this proof that the the further you travel in a taxi, the cheaper the fare? confusebiggrin

i am curious with the stomper who used the gps.wonder if they purchased a china brand or from china? or worst of all a non update gps. what ever it is.my best recommendation is why dont you instruction the taxi driver to use yr route instead? guess something is not right with yr mentality. if you are educated, worst still..dont ever tell ppl which U you are graduated. its a big disgrace.

secondly.if your intentions is to save cost,hmm.... those routes you hv stated is so near to MRT stations. why not walk n take mrt instead?try using yr so call GPS in mrt , guarantee you 100 per cent fast . cheap and no traffic lights,no conjestion.

thirdly. by calulations of yr gps used..you are so stupid...... you dont save yr time you are only saving yr money n cost. but for cabbiess.... sorry...time is money and not yr so call kuku GPS.

last but not least...walk is the best solution for you (stomper) hold yr gps and walk to yr location.its really help you. cut down all yr fats and calaries. and most of all..u dont even spend a single penny on transports.

ppl like them don't belong to this world.. they better find a place and stay on their own.why create prblms just for the sake of saving them that damn small cost. dont they realised human make mistakes and for goodness sake you 2 kukus... cabbies are not street directories. to be smart pax.... my advice, plan yr route 1st and then give instructions to the cab driver.isn't it more better and easy for you n cabbies to avoid unnecessary conflicts?
