A STOMPer observed a long queue of cabs opposite St Andrew's Cathedral and feels this is because cab fares have gone up so much that people would rather take the train or bus.
He elaborates:
"This picture was taken at noon at North Bridge Road just opposite St Andrew's Cathedral.
"You can see a row of empty taxis waiting patiently for passengers and this is an unusual sight during the lunch hour.
"Many shoppers now shun the taxi because the fares have gone up so much that they find the ride too expensive because of ERP, peak period surcharge and call surcharge.
"When fares are too steep, passengers will switch to buses and trains.
"Only the old, the sick and pregnant will take a taxi because they have no choice." -----------------------------------------00000000000000000------------------------------- well we're waiting for pax who wants premier service not cheapos...you want cheap transport carry on to ride on the buses or trains...
a lady claimed in stomp that someone touched her breast in the bus...dun complain hor your body is subjected to everyone's touch

If you are willing to admit faults, you have one less fault to admit.
Picture taken during lunch hour... Of course low demand for taxi. those who need to rush to sch or work are already in sch or work places. Shopping still early. Buses n trains also low demand. You think taxi half price during those time demand will suddenly increase.
you think more ppl taking buses n mrt. They will roll out more buses n trains. dont forget the two big taxi operators also run trains n buses. Do u think they want their taxi side of their business to fail?
Why peak hrs more taxi paxs?... because trains n buses pack like sardines. Peak hour taxi is for pax who need cab urgently and willing to pay for it.
If no peak hour surcharges then many train /bus pax will switch to taxi. Those who need cab urgently will complain no taxi. The same principle for ERP charges. No ERP charges on Sunday/Public holiday does not mean more cars on the road.
Surcharge although not perfect have their purpose. Remove midnight or airport surcharge n see what will happen. In my opinion reducing or wave ERP charges for taxi will help.
Very easy solution, cut taxi population by 50%. Increase taxi fare by 40%. Add minimum charges of $15 or meter fare whichever is higher. All will be happy.
Another farker who states "his own" reasons for the needed outcome so that he might get cheaper taxi fares, when the authorities act on expensive fares!
My reason is "Low taxi fares hurting taxi drivers ". Please up peak hours surcharges
Since public transport already matured, ppl can take luxury bus ride even after mid night then no point to let so many taxi on the road.
Limit taxi numbers below 5K increase fare start $45 flat rate. Drivers rotate 3 shifts, 1st flag covers rental+diesel, 2 more flags can go home liao.
Bro Bridgestone;
wa, 3 flags can log off. That will be good. I sure vote for u , if I am included in the 5K. But be realistic lah. $45 is about the coach fare to KL. First class 16 seaters bus is $63 by Transtar.
