My ride for yesterday

Just to share....

Ah Neh--Pick one ah neh at orchard going to city hall mrt, reach the place, show
me his posb card. Me say sorry no net, he say no cash only got posb card.
I just empty up his wallet...trip was 5.60 but only get around 2 dollars coin.
He say sorry...me say it's ok and dirve off to seek for my next fortune.

Ah Seng---Evening time, pick one youngster Ah Seng and an indian guy that speak
hokkien. In the car making hell lot of noise especially the Ah Seng, he
unwind the window few times just to spit out his saliva.

Ang mo---- Was sending a guy to airport T1, at the departure dirve-way, was about
to take off, one ang mo just hop in. Happen to be raining so no Cisco
police. Once he's inside me speed off before devil catch me. Not sure what
is the penalty if kena caught. Was telling the ang mo next time don't take
cab there. He asked me got $5 surcharge, me say no bcos me didn't Q for
hrs. End of the trip was $20 ...give me $22.

Soldier---- Petrol going to empty was at thomson going to Geylang smrt depot to
pump petrol, along balestier kena flag down by a guy, inside cab say go
Jln Behar. Me was like ...oh dear cannot pump petrol..go ulu place.
At Pie was suppose to turn to Jln behar, soldier say go Jurong point
instead. Was thinking Ok drop him at JP and later pump petrol at shell
nearby, even if pick anybody sure stay nearby area only. But never
expect the unexpected to happen. Gosh tummy a bit pain.

Night woker--Drop soldier at Jurong point drop off point, two night worker (10.30pm)
came inside and say uncle go Changi Expo. Me was...eye looking at the
petrol level..left only a small gap before hitting the empty mark.
Speed off to expo using AYE eye gluing at the petrol maker and praying
hard hopping to make it there. At ECP oh no! jam..got one car overturn
at vertical position at the divider. Good thing jam not so long.
Managed to reach Expo Taxis stand, drop them,,got pax in taxis Q,
didn't dare to pick even though got $2 surcharge. Immediately sped off
to the nearest shell petrol stn and pump, at the same time me go toilet
to pump out.

What a drive just to seek a small fortune. Life is tough.

My take is:-

1. PAX hop on my cab, I din stop deliberately to pick him up. I cannot reject. Refusing fare is an offence.

2. If I'm not wrong, any fare between the Airport Police Station and the terminals is subjected to airport surcharge.

happened during my first month of driving.

after dropping pax at T2 departure. Ang Mo drag his luggage toward me after rejecting by the cab infront . I blurr blurr say ok! (was thinking siok no need to Q)
Fellow cabby beside me shouted.. NO DON'T TAKE, will kena fine . I say thank you very much for saving me, I'm new.

Few days later I told my hirer. He scolded me " WTF you think other TD que for fun, u don't ve to que".
He told me, take aso can but need to ask AP police for permission. The best is get the Ang Mo to ask. If ok then take if no, tell the pax sorry.

He said he did it a few times with permission. (Pax drop off at the wrong terminal is a good excuse)He warn me not to do it when AP police not around. Take risk also must be smart. There are CCTV around.

My "Do not do" list is getting longer.

As bro ff mentioned "take home that small fortune SAFELY home to feed family" is not easy. One mistake... days earning gone n oso no mood to drive for a few days.

Wat to do, who ask u to come out from the wrong hole.

Brudders, try not to pick pax at the departure area lah...
Though you don't have to que, shiok, but while you do that, some of us are queing patiently at the taxi que, and like you, we are just trying to make an honest living.
Dont't pick pax at the departure not becos of the fine you may get, not becos the authority say so but becos of integrity with your fellow comrades.
Thank you my frens... smile.gif

Oops very sorry i don't meant to cut q, but sometimes it's so difficult and impolite to ask the pax to get out from the cab once they are inside.

Frankly, I do not see that as cutting queue since there is no visible queue to begin with. I have seen TD picking up pax at the departure hall on many occasions. Honestly, I do not harbor any resentment or felt that they have done anything dishonest. The thought of hundreds of TD's queuing at the various terminals never cross my mind.

I guess it's different if you are in a physical queue and you witness other TD cutting your queue as in the Clarke Quay scenario.

An apple to apple comparison at the airport would be for someone to take the bypass lane to overtake taxis in the queue and pick up pax at the arrival hall.

What if the restrictions on picking up pax at the departure hall is lifted. Would you feel guilty picking up fares there?

I don't need an answer to the last question cos I oredi knew what some of the replies would be.

Peace.

The surcharge should still be imposed, or you will be sending a wrong message to the pax. Don't spoilt the market! Nowadays many cheapo pax, even ang mo also many cheapo now.

Bro, I am really sad and disappointed that you feel that it is ok. Just keep your fingers crossed and hope nothing happens. Same for those that feels that over-charging, cheating, etc... is ok because there are lots of others doing it.

But as the saying goes.... "the more mountain you go up, you will meet the tiger one day".

What happens if every TD thinks like you do and starts picking up pax at the departure hall whenever there is an "opportunities"? Than why do we need a que at the arrival hall? Why have all the rules and regulations?

It is always easy to find an excuse to justified ones wrong doing, but always remember even if you are not caught, someone else high up is looking and keeping record. I always believe in "don't do unto others, what you don't want others do unto you."

I know times are bad and everyone is very desperate to get a fare, but does that means one must go so low just to get a fare? In the end it is still your own integrity and moral.

Well said. This type of driver may find it easier to pick a pax hiding in the bushes along the expressway.
