Went to Sin Ming Comfort to submit a police report on non payment of taxis fare on Monday. The counter auntie told me that they can only write to defaulter. It is up to the defaulter to pay up, that all they can do.

Taxi uncle nabs Korean teen who planned to evade paying fare with three friends

taxi_uncle_nabs_korean_teen_who_planned_to_evade_paying-thumbnail.jpg

STOMPer Desmond, a taxi driver, wrote in about a group of four Korean teenage boys who ran away without paying the fare. The STOMPer managed to nab one of the

boys and take his photo. Said the STOMPer: "Four Korean teenagers ran away after being asked to pay cab fare. "Hi, this is Desmond, I'm a taxi-driver uncle. "

On December 11, at 1.04am, I picked up a Korean teenager at Petir Road, Mayspring Condo, and he directed me to Jurong East St 13, Westmere Condo to pick up

another Korean friend of his. "Then, again, he directed me to Ulu Pandang Road Pink Groove Condo, to pick up another friend. Lastly, he directed me to Dunearn Road

to pick up their last friend, and they told me to drive to opposite Bukit Timah Shopping Centre. "Three of them alighted, but before they did so, they spoke in Korean.

They had already planned to run away without paying the cab fare. "The first teenager I picked up told me to go to Bukit Timah Avenue, a dead end road. He told me

that his mum was waiting there to pay the cab fare. "When I reached, he asked me to hold on and called for his mum. All of a sudden, he ran off. After which, I managed

to catch him at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre where his friends alighted. "I hope that this will remind other cab drivers to be careful as this is happening almost every day.

The STOMPer said he suspected something was amiss when the boy led him down a road near the shopping centre that was dark and had ongoing construction.

After the boy ran off, the STOMPer circled the shopping centre where the three had alighted earlier and then waited at the taxi stand. By chance, he saw the boy who

had run off come out from the building. When the STOMPer confronted the boy, he again ran off, and the STOMPer drove after him. The boy ran to a carpark and up a

staircase that had its other exit blocked. That was how the STOMPer managed to catch the boy and call the police. According to the STOMPer, the police arrived and wrote

down the boy's particulars. The boy apparently had only $5 on him, and he told the STOMPer he didn't expect to be caught and this was not his first time evading fare payment.

The group of four boys looked to be about 17 or 18 years old. The STOMPer also noted that the boy seemed to be familiar with the route he had led him through earlier. The

matter was resolved at about 3.40am, with the police contacting the boy's mother who waited at the condo's guardhouse while the STOMPer sent the boy home. The boy's

mother paid the STOMPer the initial fare of $28.20 and another $7 for the return trip home. The STOMPer says these incidents of fare cheats are common, and this is the first

time he managed to nab one of them.

    • NTA, PTC or Police should advice all the taxi companies to print stickers to put at taxis win screen or back of the front seats to remind the passenger¡¯s the severity of not paying taxi fares.

      PTC Penal Code.

Under Chapter 259B of the Penal Code, failure to pay taxi fare is a CRIME:¡°24D.
Any person who, having made use of a taxi service and without reasonable excuse, fails or refuses to pay the fare as indicated on the taximeter shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $1,000 and, in the case of a second or subsequent offence, to a fine not exceeding $2,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both.¡±

      Actually this should be S
ingapore Police force job to highlight crime prevention since a law had been pass down. Now they are not really kin in handling taxi drivers fare invasion complaint.

    • If we print the penal code and paste on the head rest of our front is it against the law?

Hey hey, yes this scumbag I picked him from Bugis to Chin Swee, told me he wanted to pass some money to his daughter. Since the fare was only $6.50, I didn't bother to ask for a collateral. Along the journey we chatted about me sending a pax earlier on that morning to Eunos. That pax send her drunk girlfriend back to her flat and I felt relief when he came back. This stout, dark skin guy with curly hair appeared to be guilt-ridden and kept asking me for the description of that guy who dropped his girlfriend.

Maybe this free taxi rides modus operandi has been, and still is practiced by the whole family or should I say parasitic tribe. Maybe we could all form a whatsapp group chat, and activate the whole group to the scene should the man with the same description attempts to ply his trade yet again...
