$3 Surcharge cannot solve CBD's taxi woo

Many ppl think TD make millions with the surcharge. Like a big deal.

In the end, most taken back by the Government.

With ERP charges as high as $3 in many location and in order to reach a booking, we might have to get

through more than 1 ERP gate, more often than not, most TD would even have to deduct part of their

booking fees for ERP charges. Plus the fact that during the real "needed" hours, between 5pm to 8pm,

jams in CBD areas are jam to the max. With conditions like this, who in the right frame of mind would

take such calls? Nowadays, I rather service the crowd outside or get them to pay for my CBD entrance.

Best time to optimised this surcharge would be after 8 to midnight. Can get the full $3 extra and

considerable lesser traffic by then. The authority should consider leaving Taxis out of the CBD charges

if they really want to solve the CBD taxi woo. If more taxi can go in and people can access taxi easily,

less private cars would need to go into the CBD this reducing traffice congestion.

What's the point of taxis going into CBD with price differential almost the same for private cars and taxis .

People will rather drive into CBD to fetch their partners or friends .

Taxis pay $3 CBD ERP

Private cars need to pay like $6 -$ 9 CBD ERP , to set a real price differential to encourage more public transport usage .

If they still don't wake up their idea . More will choose to drive after 8PM.

Dun really understand what u trying to get at. U mean the ERP toll gate

exist only for taxi? Without taxi, no more income? Taxi dun need any special excuses.

ERP exist to curb traffice congestion. Taxi are in there to help, not to add to traffic

congestion. Why should they be penalised? ERP exist to curb cars from going in to

add to congestion. Is that LTA's intention? to curb taxi from going in? As for your

fear of people using taxi as personal cars, it should be up to the Taxi company to

take measures to curb that. If Taxi company thinks just renting to these people

more lucrative to make money, then it's up to LTA to handle.

Measure like having a mininum daily mileage or taxi meter report might work.

Company can also conside sky high rental increase follow be heavy rebates

on daily mileage clocked or taxi meter report.

From the respones I gather here, the $3 CBD surcharge is just to compensate or reimbursed TD in a

limited way after deducting all the ERP charges from them which can ended up usually more than that.

For the earlier part (5 to 8pm), this surcharge may ot be even enough to over the cost of the ERP

and drivers still have to endure high traffic and long queue and what takes only 3 mins to get to in

other time slot, might takes up to even 5 times to get to the pax. With this, is it still worth it to enter

the CBD zone at this time or as Poolman says, he can easily get the total net worth of his meter reading

just queueing at LOT1 cos no ERP deductions. That's the purpose of my thread cos if this is so, the $3

surcharge the government is "giving" us doesn't work to bring taxi in at that time when it's most needed.

On the other hand, after 8pm, more Taxi are available as no ERP charges by that time and the TD can get

the maximum value of that "reward" for coming in. This make it worth the while for coming in.

The current scheme only serve to re-imburse TD, not fully, for the lost, I am thinking a incentive might works better.

Because of my more relax working habit, I used to enter the CBD around 7.30 or 8 but lately because of

"money no enough" I start work a little bit earlier and instead of getting motivated by "early bird catches the

worms" or higher earning, I really get pissed off by so much ERP charges which in the end, ended up LP-PL.

Now I just ply on the outskirt or wait to find pax to pay for my ERP charges.
