Vehicle carbon emission tax C subsidising the elites while penalising the poor S*poreans

Stated by Straits Times 17th Nov 2012:

※The amendment to the Road Traffic Act will allow the Land Transport Authority to tax or give rebates to vehicles whose carbon emissions reach specified levels.

The scheme which take effect on Jan 1, will apply to all new cars, taxis and newly imported used cars.

It specifies that owners of cars which emit 160g of carbon dioxide per km or less will receive rebates ranging from $5000 to $20,000.

Cars that emit 211g per km or more will be taxed between $5000 and $20,000 from July 1 to give consumers and the industry more time to adjust, Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo said#§

Response: First of all, where did your government get that huge amount of money to giver every new car which emit 160g of carbon dioxide or less a huge rebates from $5000-$20,000? So rich man sure buy branded quality cars and sure get the $5000-$20,000 rebates ,right? LHL, can u ask Josephine Teo who is the Minister of State for Transport whether had the people of Singapore given her the permission to give the huge $5000-$20,000 rebates to new car and look at it this way as rich man sure get the rebates for their branded cars, isn*t it so? What about the lesser rich? Lesser rich or poor man can afford less branded cars and some of these cars sure emit 211g of carbon dioxide and need to be tax and penalised huge $5000-$20,000! LHL , can u ask Josphine Teo whether has the people of Singapore agreed to this tax or not ?

If people of Singapore had not agreed to paying a huge $5000-$20,000 tax penalty or even a single cent to new cars that emit 211g of carbon dioxide or more, who give Josephine Teo or the government the right to come out and demand a straightaway a huge $5000-$20,000 tax penalty to pay to the LTA account or the government account whichever is it?

So these lesser rich man or poorer people will be paying and paying the tax penalty of $5000-$20,000 while the rich man will be receiving and receiving the rebates of $5000-$20,000 , right? So in this argument, it makes sense to say that this new law is subsidising the rich man and penalising the poorer man, right ? Josephine Teo, U THINK THE PEOPLE ARE NOT ANGRY TO PAY U GOVERNMENT A $5000-$20,000 TAX PENALTY FOR 211g OF CARBON DIOXIDE?

Josephine Teo, the people of Singapore pay your salary and pay the government department their salary , that means the people pay u to work and not to tax them harsh and hard ! If Josephine Teo or the government want to control smoke , she should tell her department not to collect a single cent as people of Singapore has not given per permission to collect that huge tax . As being paid by the people , just do the work of blocking all new cars at source from entering into Singapore that do not meet the smoke specifications will be more than enough ! Why need to collect even one more single cent ? Did Singaporeans not pay your salary ?

Every type of taxation will eventually be pushing costs and costs up for the Nation in one way or another . Eventually prices of goods will rise . So by this new taxation may eventually leads to prices of branded cars to rise as demand for these branded cars is up . As taxi is affected in the category , the costs for taxis may rise further and eventually the costs will still be passed back to people of Singapore by the rise in taxis fares affected by the new law.

So the new law affects new cars, taxis and newly imported used cars as stated . Josephine Teo , what about the category of buses, lorries and the construction vehicles that are the really vehicles that emit the most carbon dioxide into the atmosphere ? Will these new buses, lorry, construction vehicles be taxed too ? If no , why the exception ? If the government is to control the smoke , it makes no meaning if only new cars, taxis or newly imported used cars are taxed only while letting off the real polluting buses, lorry or construction vehicles untaxed , right ? In other words , the action is collect taxes from one group and at the same time letting the other group untaxed and polluting . That means no control at all but just collecting free taxes legal bullying one group to pay taxes money .

So on January 1 next year 2013, so will rich man buying branded car be given a rebate subsidy while taxation penalty starts later in July 1 ? However taxation to start taxing only later from July 1. The reason given by Josephine Teo for taxing later is that to give consumers and the industry more time to adjust . So on January 1 , if rebate of $5000-$20,000 is given to rich man car and at the same time not collecting taxes because to give consumers and the industry more time to adjust . Why so caring on the industry ? Why not care on the people*s pocket first and not tax the people huge sum $5000-$20,000 ? Just control smoke by stopping all those new vehicles that failed the stringent smoke control requirements/specifications from entering Singapore will do at the source and NO NEED ONE SINGLE CENT AT ALL ! PEOPLE OF SINGAPORE HAS NOT GIVEN THE GOVERNMENT THE AUTHORITY TO COLLECT EVEN ONE SINGLE CENT.

LHL, don*t implement unnecessary laws to jet upwards the cost of living for the people . This CEVS law doesn*t just affect the rich , it affects all people ! Another question C will the ARF that is being used to offset the rebates be raised in future to match the the value of the rebates to be $5000-20,000 so that all new vehicles owners regardless of rich/poorer ones need to pay ARF $5000-$20,000 ? If not , how is the government going to finance the huge rebates of $5000-$20,000 for every single new car that emit less than 160g of carbon dioxide ?

Singapore has really no oil gushing out from the ground . We are already suffering enough . LHL, pls don*t let government policies squeeze us more drier any further and that is your job which u are paid for with your millions salary ! Check your CEVs policy ! No need one single cent and still can control new vehicle smoke at the source . Cost of living will never come down if every law wants money to the extend of $5000-$20,000 ! Don*t forget to take out all those fines money , tax money , ERP , HDB levy , COEs, road tax, income tax , property tax , carpark fees, etc, etc, etc to return back some money to the people every year ! Those are our money and don*t belong to the government !
