Cabby who runs over dog bashed up by owner and his friends
Cabby Ling Ah Yen, 67, ran over a small dog and received a flurry of punches and kicks for it, leaving him with a fractured eye socket and severe bruising on his face.
Mr Ling had been ferrying two passengers in the Ang Mo Kio area at 1am on Feb 8. As he turned into Ang Mo Kio Street 12, he had felt his taxi run over something. He had later found that it was a small dog, which he describes as being 'almost the size of a cat'.
After his passengers alighted, he was confronted by the dog's owner and his group of five friends, whom he says were in their 30s and heavily tattooed. The owner, believed to be in his 40s, flung his t-shirt into his face and aimed a kick at his stomach, despite his apologies. Two women in the group had tried telling the dog owner to calm down, but to no avail.
He then received a series of punches to the face from the man's friends that floored him. The attack left him with a fractured eye socket and severe bruising on his face, as well as breathless from asthma. He was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and discharged the same day at 11am.
The incident left Mr Ling with the lingering question: "Is my life worth less than a dog's?"
