He was taking his passenger to Tanjong Rhu when he stopped on Victoria Street at its junction with Middle Road when the light turned red.

Cabby Daryl Wee, 51, said it was about 8.30pm yesterday when a Mercedes-Benz pulled up in the “turn right” lane beside him.

It then went straight ahead and swerved to extreme left and went across the junction. There were three women crossing the road at that time and fortunately, it did not hit them.

“I said to my passenger, ‘that guy must be drunk’,” recounted Mr Wee whose onboard camera had captured the Mercedes beating the light.

The Mercedes then collided with two other taxis. Unfortunately for Mr Wee, as he was passing the accident scene, the Mercedes appeared of nowhere and slammed into him.

Merc driver who fainted in car nearly ran down three pedestrians

The Mercedes driver who fell unconscious at the wheel on Monday at the junction of Victoria Street and Middle Road nearly ran down three pedestrians, in addition to causing a series of collisions.

This is shown in a second video of the accident which has surfaced.

Cabby Daryl Wee, 51, says his taxi was 'sent spinning 180 degrees' into oncoming traffic by the out-of-control Mercedes-Benz that caused a chain accident near Bugis.

He also said he and his male passenger were left "very shocked" by the sudden collision, and that the car had narrowly missed hitting three pedestrians.

On Monday, the 41-year-old driver of a Mercedes-Benz apparently fainted behind the wheel at the junction of Victoria Street and Middle Road. His out-of-control vehicle slammed into a taxi, which then hit a truck.

STOMPer Alexesbenhad sent in a video of the incident, and reported that passersby had attempted to get into his car to shut off the engine, but found it locked.

The car then slewed into another cab, a passing bus, yet another cab and a Mitsubishi Lancer before finally coming to a halt at a road divider.

Miraculously, no serious injuries were sustained. Four people suffered minor injuries but did not want to be taken to hospital.

The driver was not arrested after the accident and survived the crash unhurt. According to cabby Mr Wee, he had resisted disembarking from his vehicle, with police officers having to hold him down. He appeared shaken after the incident and could not recall what had happened.

He was reportedly free from alcohol and is thought to have fainted. He said the weather had been bad the past few days and that he had been working very hard lately.

Driver of Mercedes 'fainted', causing seven-vehicle crash

SINGAPORE - A businessman is believed to have fainted at the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz on Monday, causing a chain accident involving three taxis, another car, a lorry and a bus.

The Mercedes had been seen waiting at traffic lights before it left a green light and piled into a taxi, which then hit the truck.

The car then hit another cab, the bus, yet another cab and a Mitsubishi Lancer before crashing into a road divider.

One of the cabbies told how he saw the 41-year-old man's car narrowly avoid hitting pedestrians as it lurched to the left at traffic lights

at the junction between Victoria Street and Middle Road. It later slammed into the back of his taxi, sending it "spinning 180 degrees" into oncoming traffic.

Cabby Daryl Wee, 51, said he and his male passenger were left "very shocked" as the Mercedes hit a road divider near Bugis Junction. The car remained there for over an hour, causing traffic jams after the 8.30pm accident.

Four people suffered minor injuries but did not want to be taken to hospital. The driver was not arrested and escaped the crash unhurt. Mr Wee said the motorist did not want to get out of his vehicle and put up a struggle, with police officers having to hold him down.

"Many people rushed to the Merc," added Mr Wee, who is now on seven days' medical leave with shoulder pain and is waiting for his taxi to be repaired.

He handed over footage from a camera in his taxi to the police yesterday and gave a statement. Videos of the incident were also uploaded online and shared widely.

Sources said the man was bel- ieved to have been free of alcohol and is thought to have fainted. He is a member of Singapore Swimming Club and was described as a nice, polite man who is religious and does not drink or smoke.

An acquaintance who did not want to be named said: "He seemed shaken, and said he doesn't know what happened. He said he thinks he became unconscious. He said the weather has been bad the past few days, and he has been working very hard."

When The Straits Times visited the scene yesterday, part of the divider had been replaced by a temporary plastic barrier. The incident happened near the junction where a Ferrari crashed, killing three people in May last year.

Passers-by run for their lives after car goes out of control

The scene: A Mercedes-Benz rams into a TransCab taxi. The cars look like two rams butting heads, with the Mercedes' wheels spinning furiously.

Suddenly, the doors of the taxi open and a woman and child flee from the passenger seat, running onto the pavement.

Then the Mercedes hits and shears off the site of the cab and moves forward, slamming into an SBS bus. It then moves on.

This scene is from a video capturing a part of Monday night's seven-vehicle mayhem, caused by the Mercedes, along Victoria Street. It has gone viral on YouTube and Facebook.

The chain collision, which happened at about 8.30pm on Monday, occurred at one junction before the Ferrari crash that killed three people last year.

Responding to The New Paper's queries about Monday's accident, an SBS spokesman said: "Our bus sustained damage to the left side panel as a result of the collision. Fortunately, none of the passengers on board were hurt and they were transferred to the next bus."

The incident began when the Mercedes was on the junction of Victoria Street and Middle Road, said Mr Daryl Wee, 51, whose cab was also involved in the collision.

Because of the impact, the Comfort cab knocked into the back of a blue lorry in front of it.
