Minibus bursts into flames along Clementi Rd

SINGAPORE - A minibus had burst into flames at Clementi Avenue 1 this morning.

Stomp contributors Skye, Alena, Andrew, Andy, Koh, Derrick, Chew and Jane sent in pictures of the

minibus in flame, emitting thick smoke as well as of the charred remains of the minibus after the fire

had been extinguished. Contributor Andy said that the minibus caught fire at around 8.30am just

outside Singapore Polytechnic's staff apartments. He said: "The minibus kept burning for 10 minutes

and sparked off a few mini explosions." In her email to Stomp, contributor Alena said that residents

heard a sudden explosion and called the ambulance almost immediately, and after about two minutes,

the back of the minibus caught fire. According to SCDF, they were alerted to the fire at 8.30am and

the fire was extinguished with two water jets. Nobody was injured in the incident. SCDF advises the

public to service their vehicles regularly at authorised vehicle workshops, and ensure that the vehicle's

electrical, engine and fuel systems are checked for any defect during each servicing session.

Also, the public is reminded to conduct visual checks for any sign of oil leakage outside of

scheduled servicing period to prevent their vehicles from catching fire.
