Hi all Uncles , I am totally new cabbie . I am more concern about Detail Directions . Please advise whats the best GPS to buy . Also how long u guys take to be so confident about Roads . Most thankful for your advise.
i think you should juz visit the shop and have a hands on experience to operate it.
beside detail direction, user friendly and enable full update support should also be important too.
i never used one.
you should start to flip thru the street directory whenever you are free. learn to memorise the CBD area,
all the exits from expressway, all MRT stations, all the shopping malls in the estate, one estate at a time and etc...
continue driving everyday and you will get to know the route by the days. :)
Many Thanks Taxiuncle for your advise . Seems more worried bout' starting out and not knowing the Streets that well . There had been so many changes to roads n w i used to be overseas more . Thanks again .
Hihi, I was advised to get marbella because they are using maps from SLA. There is a free app using same software call galactio-sg for andriod phones. Have tried both app and GPS, and they help. Best to get the GPS navigator and try it out before going on the road. There are some idiosyncrasies which you should be aware of or it'll throw you off when they happen. Good luck
I'm using Marbella uNav for navigation except in areas like shenton, anson, cecil, etc. Too many high rise buildings & the roads are too close to each other that the GPS is not able to capture where you are.
I'm not using google maps (even I'm using 2 smart phones) as it uses a lot of data if you need it for almost every single trip. Last time I only use google map when I enter places like battery road area.
As what the seniors advised, try your best to learn by hard. Of course, it depends on each individual's memory capability.
Last but not least, do not get stressed by the roads if you are lost. If there's a need and you are able to afford to get one, just go for it. cheers
No prob at all. By the way, I'm not uncle... haha just joking.
My current relief is very good at finding pax but he is still not familiar with the routes until years of driving. He doesn't care too much. He just use his GPS. lol
If you have Android phone, Google Map is helpful but make sure you have a 2.1A USB cable to constantly charge the phone as using phone for navigation drains your cell battery pretty fast.
In addition to Android, I also use my old GPS from Garmin for quick reference for general direction or to find my way out of certain locations quickly. In fact, as I cannot program my Android to remember my favourite places, I rely on my old old Garmin to do this job. BTW Garmin maps can be upgraded freely for life (or something else happens first.....LOL).
