What Must You Do In The Event Of Traffic Accident.

guys, let me share with you my personal experience for the above.

A. Do Not Panic

The road condition might not be in your favor. you might be in a position
of causing a mass congestion at a big traffic junction. but nevermind,
walk down from your car, approach the car driver whom hit yours and
tell him not to move his vehicle untill he is told.

B. Take Pictures Of The Accident Scene

A picture speaks a thousand words. pictures of the accident scene can
definitely helps you to defend your position more effectively. if you dont
have a camera with you at the point of time, try to note down the vehicle
number surrounding you n had possibly witnessed the accident. it would
be even better if you could approach these drivers to ask for their
acknowlegement to stand as an eyes-witness if it is required.

The latter may not be easy to approach, therefore the bottomline is to
get a camera for yourself. if you dont want to pay for a digital cam, get
a disposable one for less than $20.

The best part is, you have passenger in your taxi. ask him to be your
witness. remember to take down his name n contact before he leave.

C. Things That Must Be shown In Your Pictures

The landmark of the accident scene. (as a background)
The lane marking. (to show the position of the accident cars)
The damages of the accident cars. (with registration number)
The tires mark on the floor. (to determine the speed of the vehicle)
The fragment on the ground at the scene. (to determine the actual spot of impact)

D. The Particulars

Note down the date/time and location of the accident.
the vehicle number, type of vehicle and colour.
try to exchange contact details with the other party and ask if he would
like to be settled privately. if he do agree to settle privately and is also
agree that he will pay for your costs, ask him to write a simple note of
agreement on a piece of paper. if he refuse and has no injury involve in
the accident, police report is not required. unless a foreigner vehicle is involved.

If the damage is minor, juz ask for few hundred and settle it. dont waste
your time going thru the hassle for all the reporting works at your cab
company later.

99% of the drivers involved in an accident would twist their story. unless
it is a very straight forward case. if not, most of the time both of the
involved parties would not be awarded with 100% fault-free. meaning to
say, both parties have to bear certain degree of respossibility to the
accident. in certain cases, it is definitely unfair to the innocent party.
therefore, protecting yourself from day one is very crucial.

E. Matter Of Settlement

i) pay cash
ii) sign agreement n pay later
iii) claim trial and fight for the case

Try to make a quick estimation of the damages plus other costs (loss of
income) on the scene and make him pay. If he refuse, ask him if he want
your car to be sent to his workshop or your workshop plus other costs. if
he agree the latter, ask him to write and sign on a paper to confirm that
he will bear the cost of the damages for record while looking for a
workshop. this is to protect yourself in case he changed his mind after
you go around looking for workshop.

if he refuse to sign anything, chances are he is trying to argue the case.
in that case, dont waste your time. tell him straight, you are going to
report the matter to the coy and will claim his insurance. let the claim
dept n lawyer do the job. your responsibility now is to produce the best
evidence to support your case. pictures and witnesses, that's it

i will add if i can remember some other points.
in the meantime, feel free to add your views.

Timely Reminder.

Hope we are blessed each day we are on the road and "siam" from some carelessly drivers while we also practise good defensive driving.

one more point to add, make the wrong party to sign the statment to admit the mistake !!
this is what happened to me ,,,,
I was in the Q at T2 the other nite ,, A Red taxi was behind me, the old man fall into sleep and never apply his hand brake, so he banned onto my back side and causing my rear bumper damage.
the next day when I file the report, the Loyang guy said Trans Cab called and said the old man claimed that I reverse and hit his front bumper !!!
KNN ,,, me showed my Ace card (a statment signed by the old man admitting his wrong doing) and ask the Loyang guy read loud loud to the Trans cab guy , at the end they agreed to pay up to close case !! (actual story more interesting! but me dont want to lor so here)

What can we do if we have an accident against the police car like for this case ?

policemain.jpg

STOMPer clsk nearly collided into a police car along Beach Road after it went straight on a lane designated for right-turns only.

The timestamp on the video of the incident indicates that the incident occurred on Sunday morning (Dec 29).

In his report, STOMPer clsk wrote:

"Police car going straight on a right-turn lane."

police car must also be liable for their mistake unless the siren was turned on for emergency matter at the time of incident.
