I drive short-term citicab and I get around 15 calls a day both advance and current bookings when I cruise aroun Bukit Timah area, away from the Mrt lines. Dunno if they are trying to recruit me to drive fulltime by giving me the incentives.

Bro Taxi Uncle,

I have not decided yet. I ask them about sonata and they told me that waiting time for sonata at comfort is 1-2 mths and citycab is 2-3 mths. They recommended me to take the old crown and said that once they decided to scrap the taxi they will automatic give the driver a sonata without having to sign any contract.

Prime Cab with CNG im not so interested because we must sign 5 years contract and security deposit of $5k if im not worng. Also very troublesome to pump CNG gas and 1 tank if cant last for 12 hours shift then more troublesome.

Can anyone advise if Sonata got problem like engine overheating, problematic and diesel consumption high. Because last year when I drove I was waiting at T1 and some taxi drivers were mumbling about overheating and problematic because it's Korean car and also high diesel consumption.

My sonata ...on the road since dec 07

My speedo reads 31+ k

OMO....so far ok.....

No overheating lah....my only concern are the brakes...i find them a bit soft for my liking...

It maybe a korean car...I used to discourage my friends from buying them...but surprising this sonata's chasis is heavy n my mileage = private 1.5 years on the road... still feels firm n tight...

My diesel average about 12km/litre

Hope the info helps.

unless u like to take call, if not, premium cab is almost the same as comfort with the 35 days free rental. 'sng lai sng ki also about the same'. smile

" free trade aids global technology transfer,
hyundai benefitted from mitsubishi...... "

it's my 1st taste of kimchi produce too...
let's share my experience,

10 month and counting.....
so far so good, touch wood,

have hit
140,000km since June '07,
done the 100K timing belt change,
following the usual recommended/compulsory
20,000 servicing cum ATF ( Automatic Transmission Fluid ) change.

personally i feels and know that
the sonata has better insulation and sounds quieter,
both within the cabin and externally,
even the stock factory speaker were decent enough.....

wearing
wider ( stock ) tyre 205/60/16
bigger ( stock ) rim 16"
firmer suspension setup
and wider track width,
front wheel driven,
4 wheel disc brake,
ABS (Antilocking Brake System )
with VGT ( Variable Geomtry Turbocharger )
it's more sure footed,
and adequately power.

it handle more predictable in wet condition

when compare tothe old tech/school,
lower specs'
Euro III,
manual tranny,
rear wheel driven,
tried, tested and proven

Toyota Crown, with >800,000km mileage

average FC ( Fuel Consumption ) is in the 9.5 km/litre--- 10.5 km/litre range, depending on your right foot,
and urgency of the job..... biggrin

for me.....
the negative gripes are few and minor,
like frequently blown tail lightblubs, headlight blubs,
slowerrefuel action.
more blind spots,
a bigger turning radius

not forgetting another important good equipment practice,
a slightly longer idling ( warm up/cool down ) period for the turbochargerlubricant/bearings to circulate/settle properlyprior to moving/switching off.

like i've said in the begining,
only time will tell....

'cause lately ,

the turbo lag is getting kinda annoying leh....... furious
or i am not stepping hard on the pedal ? heh heh

cheers,

I understand from comfort that security deposit for driving sonata is $1k same as crown. Can I check what is the accident excess for sonata ? Can any sonata bros tell me.

Really $1k excess only. Premier Kia taxi I think is $1.5k excess.
