cab driver's stunt

Was travelling along AMK ave 10 heading towards CTE this evening at ard 12am. Stop ata traffic light and there was a blue cabon myrighton a two lane road. Nothing wrong. Once the traffic turns green, this cab moves off and very soon, its about one car distance in front of me. Nothing wrong, he wants to speed, thats his business. Suddenly, hazzard light switched on and swerved into my lane almost immediately, I have to jam brakes in order not to bump into him. What the ****! I am left with little reaction time. Luckily I managed to brake in time. I realised that he just cut into my lane to pick up a passenger without any concern for other road users. I wanted to blast my horn at him, but I did not. Simply because I know its of no use, I am used to it. He will just give me a "what the **** " face. Why should I lose my temper and let this type of driver spoilt my day. If you are reading this, most likely you will not, pls be more considerate to other road user.

It is this type of drivers that spoilt the image of all taxi drivers. In fact this type of driver not only being dislike by other road user but also by fellow taxi drivers. This is what we called the 'GIAN PNG' driver or desperado driver.

yes its very common to see taxi drivers do that on the road. Well they probably want the other road users to give in to them. Well just be patient with these type of taxi drivers in future.

Hi pte car driver,

First of all, please let me welcome you to our website though I am the the owner of it, Taxi Uncle is.biggrin It was only after he read my blog (fredpuan@blogspot) but I have since not been actively blogging for some time now but nevertheless you can still read some interesting stories I encountered during theshort 4 months of taxi driving experience that I was invited to join and I am glad I did. Right now, I am back in employment and as an ex-taxi driver myself, I have learn to be more patient with taxi drivers in particular. Nowadays, whenever I see a passenger standing by the roadside, if there is not taxi in front, I have make it a habit to look to my right just in case, you know what I mean, a taxi driver decide to pull a stunt and cut right into my lane just to pick up the fare. That is indeed dangerous not only to the taxi driver but also to other road users. Yes, driving is indeed a full-time thing. You simply take your eyes off the road. And talking even with the ear piece is just as dangerous.

So thanks for the patience and I wish you a pleasant journey whenever you hit the road.

Sorry ah, wish to ask all taxi drivers. I hv noticed mostly at the traffic light junction, nomally there are three waiting lanes, 1 left, 1 centre and 1 right lane, right lane normally is for turning right . Once I have sat in a cab going to stopat the traffic light. He was on the extreme left lane and there was a pte car in front of him only. It was the first car. The centre lane was cleared. all of the sudden this driver just turn to the centre lane and became the first car. At that moment, there was a car just moving towards the centre lane and hv to jam brake. Is it all cab drivers like always to be the first car when coming to a stop? Hv encounter many incidents. No hard feelings for the question eh....

hi honda lover

changinglane coming to a stop to be 1st on the lane at red traffic light is nitwitmentality...why...still stop at traffic light mah...totally no difference whatsoever

but then this attitude applies to all drivers irrespective cab or pte cars...i hate most are drivers whonever plan their lane in advance...last minute change lane tofilter& forcing their rightby squeezing in between cars...

dun believe me please observe 2mor when you are on the roadhmm

Agreed w u Bro fairfare. It is all due tomental character. As wat u hv mentioned, first car also hv to stop so wats the diff of being first car. But trueit is also applicable to pte car or other type of vehiclesdrivers. Most important thing hv to be more alert when changing lane.

I belief its the KS mentallity at work. Sometimes I behave this way too (paisei) but it's purely for the simple reason that the car in front (assuming I have been following behind for a while) of me have been driving at a very slow pace and that I do not want to be behind him all the time. He may have all the time in the world and road hog. Of course, I will ensure that there are no vehicles on my right before I filter out. On some occasions, I also encounter long queues of vehicle on one specific lane and practically no vehicles on the other lanes. Not sure what the reason is but I guess its probably some drivers feel its no point changing lanes like bro fairfare said, you still have to stop. Hey, at some traffic lights the time change pretty fast and you will be caught in it again.

Generally I feel these are all personal habits and behaviour that is not universal of any group. At times I am also guilty of such things but it usually are due to traffic conditions and your state of mind ( what you are thinking )... when my son drive he tend to do that and whenever I am in the car, I always remind him try not to do so. But most important point here is that you must signal and look out first before you filter out.

Btw, do you notice that on our roads if we want to filter out to a faster lane and you give an early enough signal...most car would catch up and close their gap to prevent you from filtering out.

driving in traffic is akin to swiming in a crowded pool,

go with the flow, feel the rhythm
highway speed is fast beat, rock n roll, heavy metal !
rush hour, city zone is waltz tempo : pom, cha cha..... ha : ) side by side cheek to cheek ~

when you are in the pool,
sure get wet, rite?
then some idiot kick you or cut across your lane ?
how you react?

try not to take the work home,
switch off the prowlling mode
what happen on the raod,
keep it on the road.

put on a different hat,
your thinking hat, your party hat, your relaxed hat, your happy hat

cheers,
