RE: Newbies driving cab fulltime soon. Appreciates help on some questions?

hi DC

am glad too you got your answers in double quick timesmile

guess you can roughly tell that our bros here are highly spirited, educated & friendly...here we're trying to build a strong bond of cabby comradeship & design to help each other whilst on the road

our future mission is to establish a club/association where we could put forth our voiceswrt to our taxi profession...unlike the present asso who works only for the coysmile

after many years of fighting n surviving in the corporate world, yes, it is
at times made us think why are we doing that. is that what we want in life?
the race would never end if one would never find enough of his earning.

yes, sometimes we have to make ourselves free for awhile and think it over
of what we really want in life. life should be happiness n not torturing ourselves
of making more money for the never ending bills to pay.

yes, the words you used - cultivation is correct. to slow down the pace is not
to be lazy, it is a chance for you to focus your needs, the way of life you
desire.

driving a taxi is not going to be a dead sentence. one can always go back to
where you came from. it maybe 1 month, 1 year or never. most importantly is,
you choose what you want n the choice you made must be the one you feel happy with.

once, a wise man says this - no matter how big your house is, you only
sleep on a bed. no matter how big your car is, it can only fits a family
. smile

good luck n all the best to you.

Hi all,
Just to update all u helpful bros here.

Today i went down to comfort recruitment and enquire abt the hiring of a new sonata. Basically, it involve 1k deposit, $300 deposit, and registration fee of $30. The delivery date quote for a new sonata is ard 1 - 2 months and the counter lady tell me there is a long queue for the sonata as alot of existing cabby give up their crown for it..huh how true is that i dun really know. Upon receipt of the new sonata, contract is 1 year and penalty for breaking contract at any time lesser than the stipilated 1 year period is $500.

I still have not commited to 1 yet but will arrive at a decision soon. One thing i'm not sure is will i be getting the latest facelift sonata which was already on sales in many countries or i'm still getting the old model sonata. I try to ask the counter lady but she don't know anything about this. Any bros here heard anything about new batch of facelift sonata coming from comfort?

Will update again if i did sign up for a new cab.

Haha bro mecabby, i do count my blessings and feel very contented with my life and happy with what i had now.

I was backpacking in Vietnam last month and for that whole month i really felt that i am damn fortunate to be a Singaporean, considering some of the poverty i saw there and also the living standards there. No doubt Singapore is small, boring, expensive and run by a millionaire cabinet like a socialist state but we still do enjoy quite reasonably good standard of life here.

Hope u and your family are in good blessings too smile.

Hi DC,

It is highly unlikely that you will get the Sonata new facelift even if you it is a new Sonata that you will be getting. The chances of the current model being on our road may be for a long time to go. The new face that you have mention would likely be for the open market as you may notice the models for the taxi here are older than the petrol driven Sonata on our road now.

You must LOVE to drive. Hours on end. Drive till your knees hurt, your back stiff and your bladder bursting. Drive till your eyes blurred, your road sense blanked then quickly park by the roadside and grab some shut-eye and continue again..........

Be prepared not to be another statistic of the road...........all for another fare... flag down rate of $2.80 or $3.00 or $3.20.

Just an update for the bros here.

I had sign up for a new comfort sonata today and the delivery date will be on 18th next month. I was abit disappointed that no cd/radio player wil be installed on my new cab. Haha.. i mean it kind of stingy for comfort rite? 100+ bucks rental per day and dun even wanna included a radio, sad case man. Also, is the cigarette 12v outlet functional on the sonata so that i can charge my hp or power up my ionizer?

Anyway, any bros can advise what to lookout for when collecting my new cab and also where is a good place to install a cheap stereo set for it? i hope the sonata does come with speaker if not additional money will be needed for that too...sweat.

Hi Bro DC,
The sonata comes with 4 speakers in the door already installed with wiring at the dash. The radio installer will be able to install the radio with ease. As for a place to install to install cheap radio you can try the shop at toa payoh north that also does the taxi meter for silver cab. Forget what is the block and shop number. Maybe some other bros can help.
The 12v outlet is definitely working. There are 2 in the cabin, 1 for cigarette lighter and 1 as power outlet. There is also an outlet in the boot.
FYI, radio is not standard for all Comfort normal taxis, all need to be installed at hirer cost.
When you collect your taxi, basically nothing much need to be done, just do a once over and make sure that everything is in order, especially the MDT, because high chances is the MDT will be a recycled one from a older scrape taxi, so just turn it on and logged in to make sure it is functioning, Cablink guys will be there to help if you got any problem.
Also the reverse sensors is not standard for the sonata for all the past batches... They will be a fat guy going around asking if you would like to install them and he is also doing radio installation. So it is up to you to negiotiate the price with him.
Thats about all I can remember, good luck and enjoy your ride...

there will be a technical briefing by ahyundai rep few weeks prior to your
collection. basically, his job is to tell you the do n don't of your new ride.

on the briefing day, there will be an appointed vendor who got a contract
with comfort to display his products n services to the new hirer. new radio set,
accessories like reverse sensor n money pocket are available for booking on
the spot. they will do the installation according to your order prior to your
collection. which means, you dont need to spend your time to hunt for shop
to install the radio yourself. the cheapest sony radio cost $209 if i can
remember correctly. the sound quality is good enough for cabin use liao.
i'm using that set 2.was told that the price is specially for comfort hirers only.

also, the hyundai will check if anyone need extra set of duplicate key.
each set cost $17 on that day, after that day is $23 if i'm not wrong.
was told that the key must comes from hyundai, if you 1 2 save money n
duplicate the key yourself by 3rd party, the key broke inside, you broke 2.

one piece of advise, the reverse sensor is helpful for us becos you would
never know where you would be going. some area can be very clamp n dark
especially during rainy night. reverse sensor can help you save money for
an unneccessary damage to your new bumper. anyway, only $75.
smile
