Brief info of taxis in Taiwan

Was in taiwan recently and had chance with brief conversations with some cabbies there.

Colour: All in Yellow

Made: All different models and are petrol driven with a trend of modifying to add CNG due to Government taking away some subsidary.

Ownership: Private, Company and Co-operatives but I understand that the majority are privately owned.

TVL: Are given to individual subject to yearly renewal

Fare: Taipei city - NT70 (abt S$3.50)
Kaoshiung city - NT85 (abt S$4.25)
Some other cities maybe be up to NT100 and small cities/town may not even apply the meter.
Fare jump are both time and distance base of NT5 and it also varies for the different cities.
After 11pm they collect additional NT20 (abt S$1.00)

Owners can decide what models they like to buy and you would find that their fleet are generally newer models as old models are known to be avoided by some customers. Some old model taxis are known to have been rental out for cheap rents like NT300 (abt S$15)

This is all that I can recall.

You think so too! That's why I still think Singaporean Taxis are dirt cheap !

I suggest we help force inflation high by controlling taxis for those who can pay a higher fee!
But taxis companies will still continue to screw us by putting more taxis onto the roads !

All our taxi fares should increase by atleast 40% and it will really regulate the supply and demand issue... The company can put out more taxis but how many can survive the initial drop in business and only the hard core professional cabbies will be able to survive. This will leave the companies with more taxis in their yard which there will think twice when considering launching more taxis...
As with Comfort, seems like their laying very quiet recently without any launch of new vehicles etc... even though all the other companys are launching CNGs. Really makes me wonder what is up their sleeves...
