Reckless cabbie

Reckless cabbie violates many rules, endangers other motorists

STOMPer ChinKey was irked by a taxi driver's irresponsible behaviour as he dropped off a passenger in the CBD on 27 June at 8.04am, oblivious to the safety hazard he posed to other motorists.

In an email dated 7 July, ChinKey says:

"While I was waiting to cross the road to Lau Pa Sat on the opposite side of Shenton Way, a taxi suddently zoomed past and, almost grazing me, came to an abrupt stop in front to drop off a passenger.

"In the process of that hasty act, the driver violated a few traffic rules:

"Firstly, he crossed the double-white line while cutting from the rightmost lane into the left lane.

"Secondly, the lane where he stopped to drop off the passenger was a double yellow line slip road.

"Thirdly, he stopped the car diagonally on the slip road, where the traffic exiting from the Central Boulevard into Shenton way is rather heavy in morning rush hours. This reckless action of the driver was therefore very selfish and dangerous; it not only compromised the safety of his passenger, but also caused danger to the oncoming vehicles exiting from Central Boulevard.

"And last but not least, he also violated the latest LTA rules that prohibit taxis from picking up or dropping passengers along roads in CBD areas where the bus services ply.

"Notwithstanding that the latest LTA rules have been relaxed to allow taxi drivers to pick up passengers on the side roads in the CBD where the bus services do not ply, many taxi drivers are still found flouting the rules, giving the taxi stands and stops a miss, preferring to pick up or drop off passengers along the road.

"Hope LTA can look into it. "

I can't understand why these taxi drivers love to attract attention !

I am not sure if $12 is worth the publicity !

But I got to admit ! This is what taxis ought to be ! The real taxis ! The rest of us are made ball-less by LTA !

Provide good service to pax, but don't pamper them.
Not worth risking a $100/- fine and 3 demerit pts.
When this driver receives his summons,
i think his balls and prick will shrink liao.........
