Higher fares on 11 premium bus services By Yeo Ghim Lay FARES on 11 SBS Transit premium bus services will go up from Monday. The increases, ranging from 30 cents to 60 cents, come as transport operators are feeling the pinch from rising fuel costs.
New fares on the 11 services will cost $3.30 to $3.60, up from $2.70 to $3 previously.
These services serve residents in areas like Jurong, Clementi, Yio Chu Kang, Toa Payoh, Pasir Ris and Bedok.
They each run one trip during the weekday morning peak hour, ferrying commuters from the heartland to the Central Business District.
The fare increases come on the back of higher electricity and fuel costs for operators. SBS said these have gone up by more than 50 per cent in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year.
The 11 routes that will see fares go up are: premium services 532, 533, 534, 535, 536, 538, 539, 542, 543, 544 and 545.
Besides the fare increases, SBS will also cancel six premium bus services starting from Monday because of low demand.
These are: premium services 537 and 540, which serve Jurong West and Yuan Ching Road respectively, and CityShopper services 551, 575, 577 and 580, which ferry shoppers from the heartland to town.
Surging diesel prices have also hit private bus operators, some of which plan to charge higher fares on their premium services.
There are currently more than 70 premium bus services running in Singapore, and half of these are operated by SBS. ----------------------------------------00000000000--------------------------------------- now you know where are our missing paxs in d morning

what do the gurus think of the impact of circle line on taxi business?
personally i think very scary and taxi business will drop drastically and the required number of cabbies will drop to say 60 to 70% of current.
any foresight to share? affecting my long term taxi plan man... mid 2009 circle line starts liao
"From mid 2009 to 2012. Connects Bishan and Serangoon by mid 2009.
By 2013 to 2016. The Downtown Line (DTL) starts from Bugis to Suntec/Marina Bay to Chinatown
By 2015. The 14km Tuas extension will bring the East-West line right into the heart of Tuas. The North-South line will be extended 1km southwards.
By 2018. From the heart of Marina Bay, a new MRT line, the Thomson Line, will travel northwards, through the Central Business District and up through Ang Mo Kio all the way to Woodlands connecting estates such as Sin Ming, Kebun Baru, Thomson and Kim Seng which do not now have a direct MRT link.
By 2020. The Eastern Region Line will serve the residential restates of Tanjong Rhu, Marine Parade, Siglap, Bedok South and Upper East Coast and link them to Changi in the east..."
Whatever will be will be. In Singapore you live with it. Even when polling come, many will always without fail say they know what to do. And they really know what to do, cast Poor Also Pay vote. So it's all talk and no action. They rather let others do the casting of opposition. And I belief all of them think alike. In the end, it's still PAP.
When circle line start, the effect on us cabbies is definite. How far or bad is the damage, it's still hard to tell cos there are other factor need to consider, like how well will this line be run by the train coy? Commuters like it fast, comfortable, cheap (not affordable), hassle free, so the impact will be base on some of these factors. In the mean time, we juz hafta do our part well n work towards unity.

compliment our loss of paxs to circle line with more tourists coming in, the two IRs & provide good service where paxs will say "better to take a cab more comfy & can bring direct to point B."
if those idiot taxis still cheat & spoil taxi's reputation then its gonna be a great impact on those good cabbies as paxs jz switch mode of transport

I don't blame taxi drivers who over-charge or touting. Why? It's the authority that is to be blame. Why can't the bloody authority just lower the rental instead of increasing meter, add screw-up surcharges, etc.
LTA and MOT are the BIGGEST idiots in Singapore run by arseholes!

Removing the ERP charges on all taxis should solve the CBD woes. But fat hope I think. Lack-of Thinking Authority will not do it in the interest of revenue.
Bro Camry, many of our fellow cabbies work hard everday, they did not resort to touting or overcharging and yet they manage to put food on their table for their family, manage to send their kids to school. Touting and overcharging should not be encourage, haven't they done enough damage to our image? There are so many times when i hafta explain to tourist why the fare is higher during peak hrs or what the surcharges are, not because they wana know but because they tot tat we are overcharging them. But how the hell they got this idea? Believe it or not, it's their frens, relatives that stay here warn them about cabbies overcharging, that's how bad it is for us. So no matter how tough it is on the road for cabbies, we should not resort to touting and overcharging, cos tat in a way is killing us, killing the hardworking and honest cabbies. It's wrong when the cab rental is high, but tat doesn't mean overcharging is right either. There's always reason to everything, but not for the wrong reason doing the wrong things.

Good advice. Yes, some pax had the concept that taximan will try ways n means to overcharge. Being a new driver i used to made wrong turn n also longer routes, but i had to assure them that it was not intentionally,so to proof to them.... , discount lah...haha
