recently our MOT RLim said that public tpt had increased 8%...meaning more people have gave up their cars...he mentioned taxi service wld improve & in demand in the coming years
so is LTA trying to put more cabs on the road to meet demand?
my gut feeling is we're going to end up harder to find paxs

Taxi fare cannot be lowered. With increase in the no. of taxis in our tiny island, lowering the fare to lure more pax is not the solution cos the no. of trip a taxi can make is limited, lowering the fare will only means less money for the same trip made but may not have more pax waiting at the other end. Increase the fare further, clamp down hard on errant cabbie to raise the standard of cabbie and in turn encourage more ppl to take taxi. Lets not forget that it's these errant cabbies tats making our life more difficult than it already is.

Not only did this Yellow-Top taxi lack a licence plate, he hogged the passenger pick-up point at Hougang Mall, says STOMPer Celia
Annoyed by the driver's lack of situational awareness, she said:
"While waiting for my transport at Hougang Mall, I saw this taxi without a car licence plate.
"The driver was so inconsiderate. He stopped at the narrow road bend, thus causing a jam behind him.
"So what if he is queueing for passengers at the taxi stand, he could have just driven further up a bit to allow more space for the cars behind him to overtake him.
"Don't know whether he drives without brains. Probably doesn't have one"

with cheaper diesel now, do u think is wise to lower the taxi fare? any objection?
Provided the cab coy lower down the taxi rental FIRST...
How cheap can diesel price and rental go down? We are now paying much higher diesel price than a year ago. Higher rental than before because of newer, more comfortable cab and higher GST.
Think is not wise, not a good idea to lower taxi fare at this moment. Lower fare means a pay cut for cabbies. Frustrated with lower income will surely leads to drop in service standard.
Yes, lower fare may increase numbers of daily trips for cabbies. Does not surely means increase of daily income. But surely means we are taking a step forward to become cheap labourers.
I propose to do away with all surcharges, impose location surcharge in all airports ($3), Ferry Terimals ($3), place of interest e.g. sentosa, botanica garden, expo, jurong bird park, zoo, etc. ($2), current booking fee (no peak or off-peak) at $3.50 while advance at $5.50 and LASTLY flag-down rate begin at $6.00
