My noisiest taxi ride: Cabby yaks on walkie talkie while driving

What was supposed to be a relaxing ride to a friend's place one weekend turned out to be a headache for a STOMPer, who had to put up with her cabby's noisy walkie-takie, and the incessant chirping of a device which he installed in his cab.

The STOMPer had boarded the Comfort Maxi-Cab and had immediately noticed the chirping sounds.

Intrigued, she had asked the driver what caused it, and he said it was a device meant to locate and detect the presence of speed traps on the road.

"He told me it was not legal for cars in Singapore to have such a thing," she told STOMP, "and switched it off for a while as I said it was really noisy."

However, her peace and quiet was short-lived, as her ride descended into noisy hell.

The STOMPer recounted:

"After a while, his walkie-talkie set came to life as his friends and him started planning where to go for breakfast.

"One of them asked him why there wasn't a chirping noise heard in the background as usual.

"He then switched the contraption on again.

"Hence, for the remainder of the ride, which took about 15 minutes, it felt like hours as I had to put up with the noise from his walkie-talkie and the nonstop chirping of the machine."

The STOMPer also wondered if the driver was allowed to drive and chat on his walkie-talkie in the first place.

"I know people aren't supposed to chat on the phone without a handsfree set while on the road, but in this case, are drivers allowed to chat on their walkie-talkies?" she wondered.

So bros, still interested in the walkie talkie stuffs. You never know when you will get carried away. That MF not only is a disgrace to our profession but also a public nuisance. If he was reported to LTA, I am sure he will kena from them Big Time.
1) For knowing and illegally installing the radar for speed trap. Sure very heavy fine.
2) For using the walking talkie while driving with one hand on the wheel. Confirmed heavy fine with immediate suspension. This is public vehicle not private vehicle.
3) For intentionally failing to fasten his seat belts properly. Another heavy fine.

I think LTA should teach this bugger a hard lesson. furious.giffurious.giffurious.gif

Feel it is more polite to excuse to pax if we need to talk on phone

Sometimes the majority may not make sound decisions you know. But in this democratic society, the majority wins.

That why I mentioned this service should be restricted to paying members only. We are a bit on the generous side. SMSes cost money you know, 5cts each so not cheap. On its own is only 5cts but in mass, tsk tsk tsk.

Bros, be prepared for the noisy interference in between listening to radio. But then again, walkies may work like a hp. Nonetheless, it's still as dangerous even with the earpiece.

looking forward to the walkie talkie thingie
Just imagine, if at the airport long queue, and got info that TMFT or Expo is PNG
I'm willing to speed down and forgo airport surcharges
for time = money
1 hour queue = time wasted, diesel wasted
1 hour can be used to convert to 22 ~ 25 bucks biggrin.gif
