STOMPer Edelyn would like to warn taxi drivers to look out for such passengers who promise to make payment via internet transfer.
In an email to STOMP yesterday (Dec 4), the STOMPer says:
ˇ°I am writing this on behalf of my uncle who wishes to lodge a complaint.
ˇ°The incident occurred two weeks ago. My uncle, 62-years-old, is a taxi driver with ComfortDelGro. He picked up a female passenger at Tampines St.42 and drove her to her destination, Shenton Way, No.1 Raffles Marina.
ˇ°The female passenger told my uncle that she had to pay with NETS as she did not have cash with her. However, my uncle realised the NETS reader machine in the taxi had malfunctioned only upon reaching the destination.
ˇ°As the passenger claimed that she needed to alight urgently, she could not withdraw money from an ATM machine nearby, so she told my uncle that she would transfer the taxi fare into his bank account through internet banking.
ˇ°My uncle gave her his bank account number, thinking that the female passenger would act upon integrity and transfer the fare to him. Two weeks has since passed but my uncle has yet to receive the taxi fare from the passenger.
ˇ°The taxi fare is around $27 in total, which is a lot. My uncle wants to take this opportunity to warn fellow taxi drivers to keep a look out for such passengers who wants to make payment through NETS.
ˇ°I hope that this incident can be posted up onto STOMP, so as to let other taxi drivers be wary of such passengers.ˇ± ---------------------------------------------00000000000000-------------------------------- right thing to give your a/c bank number?????
