Cabby drives off with my groceries, then says I must pay to have them sent back
A STOMPer says a taxi driver drove off with her grocery bags still in the boot, and later said that she had to pay for the metre fare if she wanted them to be returned.
Says the STOMPer:
"After my New Year and grocery shopping on January 7 (8.45pm) with my friend, we shared a Comfort taxi SHC1719T home.
"We were both with few shopping bags and since I'm the later one to alight, I chose to put my bags in the taxi boot.
"Upon reaching my destination, I paid for the fare and alighted, reaching for the boot to claim my items.
"But the taxi driver simply drove off.
"I even chased for a distance, but in vain.
"I immediately called the Comfort Call Centre for aid to retrieve my items. After some wait, they managed to locate the taxi uncle.
"What angered me so much was that I was told if I wanted him to return me my stuff, I had to pay for the metre fare from his house and back.
"I was infuriated! It was not like I was the one at fault, it was him. Of course, I refused to pay, and in the end, he refused to come back and return my stuff.
"I was told to go to Comfort HQ to claim my items from the Lost and Found Deparment.
"In the first place, it was his fault to drive off without letting me get my things, and I even chased after him.
"Then he gave the stuck up reply saying that if I don't pay, I don't get my items.
"Initially, I was thinking that if he needed to drive back, like a few hours later, or even the next day, I would be willing to wait.
"But the unreasonable demand he came up with that I needed to pay him simply pissed me off.
"What's more, he's only about 15 minutes drive away (I'm at Ang Mo Kio and he's at Hougang)!
"And when I told him that I would make police report, he simply said that since I was going to do that, then he would go to Hougang NPP to drop off my things, so that Ang Mo Kio NPP would know my items were there.
"The issue here is, I didn't get a single apology from him even though he was at fault, instead I got a stuck up attitude!
"In the end, I end up still having to go the COMFORT HQ to claim my items.
"I think Singaporeans need to be aware of this, it matters not whether it¡¯s your fault or not when your items get left in the cab, you are going to suffer the agony of it." -------------------------------------0000000000000000--------------------------- minister says no free lunch mah!!!!!!!

U think what the Stomper said its true? No one with brain will actually says its thei own fault... its just their natural hobby to point fingers and pass the buck around.
Remember this: By pointing finger at a accuse, you will be a bigger excuse because there are 4 fingers pointing at you. Try it infront of the mirror and see for yourself.

No one understands the plight of being a taxi driver unless you had first hand experience - So STOP whining and start driving!
Dear bros, benefit of doubt have to be given to all. Regardless of who is speaking the truth. It's only natural that some bros here take the side of fellow taxi driver. This is understandable. But to be honest, if you had opened the boot for the passenger to put the stuff in, it is our duty not to forget that there are stuffs in the boot. And if you forget, then you are duty bound to return the stuff, FOC. Tio bo!
Benefit of doubt need to be given to the stomper/driver. Though it's not our responsibility to remind pax about their stuff in the boot but seriously, it's a service that we should try to provide.

Both pax and driver are Singaporeans. Something happened, always blame "The ugly Singaporean". Nobody is at fault, nobody wants to admit fault. So....it is the Singapore's society at fault.
If I were the taxi driver in the said incident, I will just drive back to her house, returned her goods, apologise and wish her Happy new year. A few dollars fare only, why create friction?
Mati!! If nearby of cos bo problem, but to the pax, we are always nearby lei....
At a Taxistand in town. tu:" i changing shift boon lay, you wana go where?" pax:" uncle chai chee." tu:" sorry chai chee i can't make it." pax:" why cannot? chai chee then boon lay along the way mah?" tu:" ????????????"

Carrefour charges $15 delivery why TD need FOC? Buy cigarette @ 7-11 pay forgotten to take the packet, will they send to me or I need to go down?
Few years ago I left wallet inside taxi at JW91 (cash about $20), noticed before cab disappeared but still too late.... call center then 30mins later been told taxi already in SGH. I called the TD and agreed he sent back the wallet with meter on. Meter $15 and I happily gave him all from my wallet, $22 in total.

This is a diffrent story from the taxi driver with the groceries in the boot. Besides, if passenger wants to reimburse you for the trip back then you can take it as a bonus. If I were to return I probably would not ask for reimbursement but rather let the passenger take initiatives. If he/she don't pay then treat it as a doing a good deed. You will be rewarded by Heaven in one way or another. Honestly, to me it's not nice to ask for money as a form of reimbursement.
My personal view wud b if the taxi driver wud send the groceries back to the passenger without any demanding, I am quite sure 90% of the sgeans will just gv a little tip as appreciation.
In my short driving experience I have 2 encounters.
1. None of them offer to pay me, I do not even bother to ask. 2. One young man call to operator and inform so it was registered in the company. The other do not even thank me, ask me to leave it with the guard of the condo.
In life you win some, you loose some...I believe in paying it forward and move on. Next!
If those jokers in Aus then they will know the result is totally different. Aus pro TD will either ask them pay warehouse charges and self collect within agreed period, or TD will send it to police lost and found somewhere nearest to TD's preferred location. Only Asian "do and [pray] get pay", others "pay and do". Change a new brain to think and things will be totally different.
In Sydney, taxi fare $4.2 and I pay him $10, he say no change and I need to give him $10 deposit while I get off the taxi having small change from a shop and the meter is still running. No argue or he will send me to police station. Can we imagine what would happened if we do it here?
When we want to do a good deed, do not expect anything in return if not you will be a disappointed person. Live and let live. If you do not feel like doing it, nobody is going to force you to do it.
And if you feel happier turning the stuffs over at the end of the day to the police station or CDG rather than returning to the rightful owner, then go with it.
Like I said, personally I will choose to return to the rightful owner if he has my contact number rather than inconvenience him/her. A little sacrifice won't hurt. And again, do not expect anything in return to avoid disappointment.
