Traffic Police caused jam on CTE during peak hours

Why deploy Traffic Police during morning peak hours and cause jam on CTE?

STOMPer Esther is frustrated that the Traffic Police deployed during the morning peak hours to catch a few cars which drive along the road shoulder, delays the rest of the cars travelling on the expressway.

She tells STOMP:

¡°I just wanted to raise the issue about the time in which the Traffic Police who stops at the road shoulder along expressways during the morning rush hour to check road users who drive along the road shoulder.

¡°I noticed that very serious and heavy traffic jams occur not because of any traffic accidents but simply because there stands a traffic police on the motorbike at the road shoulder.

¡°This is not the first time I noticed this. In the past month, twice a week, heavy traffic jams occur along CTE from Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 to Avenue 1.

¡°The expressway is currently undergoing road works to be widened, but it is not completed yet and the road shoulder currently being sectioned is even wider than the lanes.

¡°The Traffic Police waits by the road shoulder and stops motorists from driving into the road shoulder.

¡°And in order to stop possibly two or three offenders who may drift into the road shoulders, it causes about 500-1000 cars to be delayed for work as everyone slows down and stop to see the flickering police lights on the road shoulder.

¡°This morning, the traffic came to a standstill because they finally caught a Taxi and while the cabby was being booked, at least at 1000 cars were delayed for at least 10 minutes.

¡°So, what's the morale of the story?

¡°I am very sure the Traffic Police were the cause of the traffic jam because right after that spot, the expressway was entirely clear which had always been at that 8:15am hour without the presence of the Traffic Police.

¡°I am sure every driver knows the reason but no one may bother to write about this. Why such an untimely hour to catch a few number of offenders and cause so many other people to be late for work?¡±

If there is something 'different' on the road, many driver tend to slow down and watch. The writer herself is one example who cuased the traffic to slow down

the jam also cause by bus, vans, lorry moving on lane 2 instead of extreme left lanes..
also those last min, last 30meters then switch lane from lane 1 to lane 3 or 4 to exit into slip roads.

many many reasons lah. all got their story... :(

That's why I often use the left most lane to overtake as it is usually free of traffic as if it is the overtaking lane. ; ) ;)

Another ignorant sillyporean..... so sad..... The road shoulder is so wide that even if a 40ft trailer is park there it will not obstruct any traffic.... It is the kay po sillyporeans like the writer that slows down to see what is happening that is causing the massive jam...

Ever noticed that if there is an accident along the expressway, there is a high chance another accident will happen either near it or on the opposite side of the road, because kaypo sillyporeans slow down to see and doesn't pay attention on the road and cause another accident themself...

If you just move on and travel as if nothing is happening than there will not be any jam... unless you are making use of the road shoulder illegally daily...
