If there is anything good about the recession, it has to be that it is so much easier to get a taxi when you are in town now.

STOMPer Vassili took these photos of taxi stands in Orchard Road and City Hall yesterday (May 11).

He said:

"Several months ago, before the recession, trying to get a cab in town was a nightmare.

"The taxi stands would be packed with sweaty, grouchy passengers, who could be waiting for hours for a cab.

"But look at how much that has changed these days.

"I took these photos at the taxi stands of Lucky Plaza and Ngee Ann City in Orchard, and the one at Raffles City in City Hall.

"The photos were taken at between 7.30pm and 9pm yesterday.

"Lately, the stands are virtually empty, except of course, for the long queues of taxis waiting forlornly for their once faithful passengers, who have now abandoned them for the cheaper MRT.

"While the recession has taken its toll on the income of taxi drivers, the public may be spoilt for choice.

"So who says you can't get anything good out of the financial crisis?"

At least for now,we have quality passengers, not the cheapskates waiting for 8 pm or walk all the way to outside CBD for cabs.

My income.....still very good and strong. Chilli crabs or kampong durian,anyone ???

等着瞧吧。。 i belief CDEG will make a move soon.. the calls r so less now that means their revenue drop.. 6 mil for the last few years just 0.5 from each call they collect from CDEG cabbies, do u think they will let 4mil go down the drain this yr??

It depends on which side a person stand and what sort of attitude that mould him into what he's today, he's a consumer and if he don't have any sibling or his father is a not taxis driver...hismentality is who care. Everybody suffer is their problem not his problem. Recently pick up a young nice guy, after dropping his girl friend change his seat and sit beside me.Very understanding what Taxis driver go through and their plight. Have a nice chat with him...it's only once in a blue moon that Taxis Driver are being respected from pax.
