Which route will you take?

Hey guys,

I am still very new... was kena left right center by passenger dat day...

Mt Sinai to Goodwood Park Hotel... peak hrs at 7.30pm on Sat... which route would u take?

I took on a on-call dat Sat, a Japanese family. I did ask the father which way he prefer, but he say my choice...

So I took Holland Rd - Grange Rd(afraid that Tanglin n Orchard Rd jam) - Patterson Rd(sway sway got roadworks, stuck 20mins, they r behaving very impatient liao)- Scotts Road(I dunno I cant turn right into it, n no U-turn!) - Cairnhill Rd(illegal U-turn, aft the father pressure me by keep on screaming at me:WHERE R U GOING!!) - Scott Rd agn then turn left into Goodwood Park Hotel....my legs r trembling by then...

Total fare is $18.50 plus on-call n peak hr.
I am still wondering am I on the best track....

I believe I need a lot of improvement. May bros here enlighten me pls...no

Quick Answer

Mt Sinai - Holland Rd - Napier Rd - Tanglin Rd - Orchard Rd - Scotts Rd - U turn after u pass Tanglin Club - Goodwood Park.

Just drive the shortest route unless they tell u otherwise, dun care about traffic conditions (passengers do not know wad you are thinking).

After Tanglin...turn ino Claymore Road -> Claymore hill -> Draycott Drive -> Steven Road then U-turn.

Bro Yellowsub route is the most direct and preferred route of many pax from that area to orchard. If tobusiness districtside, than turn onto grange road and than thru kim seng and havelock. Just follow the crowd and you will never go wrong.

You will be surprise that some of the route that pax suggest is actually longer or cost more. But who cares, they are the one paying...

Don't bother about jam or no jam,so long aspax happy and pay you can liao...

When pax say it's up to you to decide which way to go, pls don be naive to think that the pax really mean it's UP TO YOU to decide.
Base on LTA guideline, we are suppose to use the shortest route. PERIOD!
If pax tell you to decide the route, pls tell pax the route you'll be going.
You'll be surprise by the response you'll get from them.
Learn to cover your own As. cos it's YOUR own, nobody on top of you to answer for you and nobody below you to be your scapegoat.

I guess you are right to follow LTA guidelines.

I avoid the Tanglin / Scott road juncion because I hate the traffic there. Time consuming.

Usually I am quite lousy with routes so I always play safety and tell pax in advance " Can I go by...." indicating some of the major and sometime nearer the destination I would ask, do I need to keep left/right, or should I be taking next left/right?

So far so good.

Inside small lanes pax of course knows how to go out better than us. Simply ask left? right? straight? will do.

When reach main road then you take over. If still duno??? ask again left/right? straight? @ junctions until the point you know. Tell pax earlier before you make the last u-turn. In your case, be it @ newton, carinhill or stevens makes no difference as long as pax is informed w/o objection.

From my limited experience:
  • you MUST be very steady all the time.
  • DON'T panic (the most unload your "cargo" @ time you can't take), safety always top priority.
  • you MUSN'T "over polite"!!! 1 out of 100 pax behaves like a dog... you polite... it chase u & bark... you more polite... it bites you.... When pax sensed you are steady they'll dim dim...
