Two STOMPers took dramatic photos of a taxi that had crashed into a kopitiam in the Aljunied area at about 2.45am today (June 25).
As a result of an accident with a lorry, the cab had apparently flown across a drain and knocked down an electrical box before crashing into the coffeeshop.
Keith, one of the STOMPers who took the photos, said:
"An accident involving a lorry and a taxi occurred at the junction of Sims Avenue and Aljunied Road at 2.45am today (June 25).
"The impact sent the taxi flying across a drain, knocking down an electrical box for the traffic camera before crashing into a coffeeshop.
"According to the people at the coffeeshop, luckily there were no football matches, otherwise there would definitely have been people sitting at the spot where the taxi landed.
"The taxi driver was in shock and was slightly injured by shattered glass.
"No other serious injuries. The lorry driver left soon after.
"The traffic police and tow truck arrived and the taxi was towed away."
Another STOMPer who saw the accident, John Chan, was also relieved that no one at the coffeeshop was injured.
He said:
"Luckily there was not many people there watching the football match, can't imagine if it was a Saturday with the EPL going on."
