Is there a problem with Singapore's taxi fare structure ?

I felt there's a piece missing in that jig-saw puzzle .....

No.1 )
Peak hour ? Taxi too many , taxi long Q for paxes , demand low almost every part of Singapore .

After peak hour , like 8.05pm , a sudden surge of human q at taxi stands , or at street , almost every part of Singapore .

Some even waited at the taxi stand smoking @ 7.55pm , just to save that surcharges .

Is that 35% fair amount ?

Is that 35% surcharge relevant or not , now ?

Does that 35% surcharge solve taxi demand problems ?

Who win here ?

Definitely not pax ....

Also not cabbies ....

No.2 )
CBD $3 surcharge , inside CBD taxi long Q for paxes , but human Q ?

Outside CBD , taxi stand everywhere people Q-ing for taxis , but taxi cannot be seen .

Eg Serangoon Plaza taxi stand ..... Far East Plaza t/s ... Orchard Tower t/s .... Sim Lim Sq t/s ....

is that a problem ? i think there is problems .

I think in commuters perpective , it's a problem waiting for a taxi outside cbd after 8pm .

In cabbies perspective , it's a problem to get paxes inside CBD , soloution is to Q , does that solve the ultimate problem ?

Wondering if LTA saw that little bit problems lying ahead ?

Wondering what is the best for all parties ?

I quotesomebody here in this forum "TAXI FARES TOO CHEAP....RAISE THE FLAGDOWN FARE TO $10/- " and abolish surcharges except for CBD (to offset the ERP charges) and CHANGI AIRPORT (to make up for the distance to get there) Booking charges remain with minimum charge for cancelled booking.

A elderly passenger once said to me,
( retired businessman whom had travelled around) i assumed,

" Something is not right,
when students are seen taking taxis "

YES!!! Taxi fare are too cheap. All fares should go up atleast 40%. Remove all other surcharges except CBD and Airport. Have a minimum fare structure, eg. min $15 or whichever higher.

Every morning there are still too many students booking taxis just to get to school!!! Even primary school kids can afford to book a cab to school during peak hours!!!

this is how I see the situation:-

No1....peak hour?...garmen makes sure during these times they want the public to take MRT...so impose surcharge to deter paxs...on the pretext to help cabbies

No2...CBD $3 surcharge...garmen wants to make sure those who can afford or tourists can get a cab in the CBD areas...those cheapos can take MRT or bus home

so many types of surcharges?...done on purpose to encourage public to take mrt/buses.

Big question is...who should represent the cabbies to ensure our income wont be eroded further? Taxi Associations? Har we are now in this situation bcos of themfurious

earlier before i quit last August ...

An ang mo consultant , who work for WFA Work Force Agency ....

He actually told me ..... the reason for the hike is to lower the standard of living instructed by the Adminstrator @ Istana .

I mean ..... setting a pricing , that squeeze all taxis into CBD , and neglect those commuters outside CBD ?

And set a prices , that make people wait until after 8pm to take a cab ?

No proposal better than that ?

i think ....

Now the problem is outside cbd after 8pm .....

Also implement location $2 surcharge toselected taxi stands outside cbd . From 8pm to 12am .

They should erect more taxi stands outside CBD , and put up a sign like those at Singapore Expo .

Singapore Expo , because of the $2 , cabby good boy all go taxi stand take paxes .

Outside CBD also got plenty of tourist ma .....

LTA just dunno , Indian tourist is Topping our Tourist ranking List .

Places like Golden Mile , extra $2 .

Serangoon Plaza .... same .

Buffalo Road .... same .

Sim Lim Sq ...same

Orchard Tower ...and Far East Plaza .... Hilton .... Liat Tower .

One taxi stand should erect at Nth Bridage Road near Sultan Mosque .

Another at near Fu Lu Shou ....

This $2 location charge should stop those chaos after 8pm to 12am

So that pax inside CBD , they dun just walk out of CBD , and try to save that $3 .

Then at Tanglin Mall ...$1 ...

Staggeredto $0 ....... like walking down a stairs .

Complaints by tourist and big mnc is a nightmare to LTA. They complaint whenever taxi is unavailable inside CBD, so if I were decision maker in LTA I must make sure long taxi queue everywhere. Local commuters LTA wouldn't care too much as long as they can afford paying extra $3 inside CBD or else take bus or MRT. The logic is you can't afford so don't blame me!

During peak hour, most empty taxis rushed into CBD so ERP paid and if td is lucky got pax, $1 after minus ERP is rewarded for our hardwork.

just now at 9.30pm ....

From AMK i dashed down to town via Rochor Canal Road , by pass LTA office , then Race Course Road , then Tekka Market area ....

Many flag for a taxi ....

Also many taxis TAXI , i intentional also TAXI, usually i set to BUSY .

Non stop for them , even if some taxistop for them , also like asking question : " U want to go where ?"

I really hope this batch of Tekka Indian customers do complain day-in day-out to LTA .

I make sure is*hit all the time , and they clean up my mess after that !!

Cos LTA good for nothing one ....

Only will they take action if too much complain come in .

I want to see how long this situation goes on .

Outside CBD , people flag for taxi until hand drop also no taxi wanna stop .

Inside CBD , taxi stands full of taxis until traffic jam .

LTA , u find the logic here ?

All becos of that $3 .

Take out $3 , CBD no taxis .

Put $3 , Outside CBd die ....

Unless the boundary of CBD expand , that will solve massive problems .

CBD start from Newton area , Novena , Tekka , Rce Course Road , Owen Road , Golden Mile , North Bridge Road , Harborfront , SGH . etc ...

Will you stop along Cavanagh condos towards Orchard during 8-12pm if passenger flag you?
I definitely not because I know I can have $3 more if I go on another 200m, but once enter CBD things totally not as I expected, all taxis queuing everywhere.

I always think why they need to walk out from CBD and wait? Example, many pax told me they walked from Somerset to Shaw Center hope to save $3 eventually waited for 40 mins or more so call cab.... pay extra $3.5

Why? LTA can't see the logic I don't think so, is any hidden reason lying behind?

i think CBD charge is helpful both for taxi drivers and paxs.
remember the time when pax in CBD has to wait for hrs for taxi when surcharge
was not implemented? i think it is the systemthat screw up a good plan.

let us think of something constructive and workable n send them for study. smile

Remember ST reporters Q at Takashi TS & waited for hrs (b4 the implementation of CBD $3)..showed pics of long pax Q?

Now is the reverse...long taxi Q at TS...where's the paxs? Not willing to pay $3?

Since TU has a good cam...go & take some pics lah...then send to SPH...with headline "LTA what happened to your brainy plan to increase $3?"cry

singapore expo style lor ....... erect large dominat taxi stand , and tag $2 surcharge .

Pax no complaint ...

Cabby not choosy ...

No chaos absolutely ...

And let cabby decide , $2 or $3 .....

Problem still persist ....... then see how .

Now there is problem .

To raise fare to $5 , like that will kill off taxi business at HDB area .....

25,000 taxis squeeze into CBD , worst !!!
