We cannot compare this way. If we want to compare singapore with other country taxi fare then you need to take into consideration their living expenses. Example : How much a can of soft drink cost in singapore vs japan or london. If we really need to compare then we need to choose both with close or similar cost of living expenses. How can we take a 1.6L car to race with a WRX.

Bro Donsan,
Any idea what is the taxi rental or taxi self owned by driver ? Cigarette $10 in singapore because of garmen heavily taxed as it is a good source of income to them. On the other hand they are discouraging people not to smoke and stressed that it will cause serious health problems even make it compulsary for manufacturer to print packaging with disgusting pictures. Why not they ban it just like they ban chewing gum which dont cause health problem. After all only money makes the world go round so why should they ban it.

Several years ago, from what I was told, there were many different taxi companies in Central Japan alone. From few hundreds taxis to few thousands, but not sure now if there is still one that is as big as Comfort.
Some were self owned. But I was told very jialat, like our omo.
My friend drove for a small taxi company with few hundreds taxi.
eg. Mon - 0700 hrs to 0200 hrs. Tues off. Wed again same 0700 to 0200 hrs. One day work, One day off.
I think 2200 - 0500 hrs got 20% night surcharge.
At night usually short trips, so he always wait at train stations. Many drunkards problems, worst than singapore.
Also he told me his taxi cannot go Narita Airport to queue and pick up pax. Only can off load at departure hall.
