Give discount to poor senior citizen

Whenever i had old senoir citizen pax when reached their place especially those no room no hall hdb i will tends to give them discount of $1 off.

Not sure am isetting a bad example or spoiling the market, anyway i do what my heart follow and the small discount will not cause a dent to my pocket. Just skip a cup of kopi will do.

How u know they got no room no hall hdb?
Why do they take taxi if they cant afford it?

I think its a kind gesture u show towards to elderly. It as good as giving out donations. However, it does spoil the market, and they dont always get to take ur taxi. They will demand $1 discount and things might get out of hand. Since not always every TU would want to give $1 discount, they could be having a hard time as well, and every dollar counts. Imagine a TU being the only breadwinner, support the whole family, the burden is too heavy.

Recently i got a pax, he walked with a limp, carry very heavy suitcase, got up around Jalan Besar, going to Bt Ho Swee. He asked $6 ok? I say its fine. Reached there Fare $6.40. I helped him to carry his SUPER HEAVY suitcase out for him.

Another ocassion, 40+ man, flag my taxi at the main road, then go inside carpark, fetch his wheelchaired father, going to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, when reached, fare is 9.60. I say $9 is fine, but he gave me $10 and ask me keep the change. My heart melt, and he thanked me instead....i helped with taking out the wheelchair while he support his father.

Its a personal instinct if u feel like giving out discounts, some do accept, some do not. Some die die want ask for discounts. Based on compassionate reason, udo it within your means, but cant expect all TUs to do the same assome are having difficulties themselves.

Like u said, follow your heart......

Bros, don't let their looks deceive you as they say 'Looks can deceive'.
Let me relate one incident i had a few years back.
An old man, 60+ yrs, flagged my taxi at Holland Ave going to Bt Purmei during peak hours.
Before he got into my cab, he said : "Uncle(knn, he's older than me lah!), me old man, $5 go
to Bt Purmei can or not?". Being a soft-hearted person that I am, i said "Okay. No problem".
When we reached the destination, he got out of the cab, stood beside the front passenger door
and dipped his hand into his pocket. Out came a BIG stack of notes of various denominations.
He flipped thru' the notes and pulled out a $5 note to pay me.
PHUI! PHUI! knncb, honestly telling you, what he had in his hand,
I won't be able to make in a week or maybe two!

Not all i give discount, just have to believe my own eye. Anyway i never expect any return if do good. Just felt that the cab fare is too high for them. I ever helped old man to carry two boxes of oranges ended up get scolding for spoiling his trolley. I'm not the type that open door for pax...saw some cabby do that.

personally hor, i feel that we dont get handicap or old and sick ppl most of
the time. maybe once or twice a month thats all. so for that few dollars of
goodwill once or twice a mth, i think is okay for me lah. smile

my experience was;

fetched a pair of elderly ah gong and ah ma to alexandra hospital in one of
a raining morning (midnite). fare was less than $5. i says $2 will do but they
insisted to pay me full.

another one is from ubi ave 1 to AP T2 on a sunday morning. the old uncle was
late for his job so he takes taxi. i asked him and he says his pay a day is $25
as a cleaner. fare was $10+ (can't remember) but i took only $5. pity him lah. wink
