Singapore is the most desirable destinations among Myanmar travellers, according to a new study by MasterCard.

(11 Mar) C The Lion City was identified has the top ¡®dream destination¡¯ for outbound travellers from Myanmar, ahead of other world cities such as New York, Bangkok, Seoul and Paris.
According to the MasterCard survey, fewer than one in five Myanmar citizens had travelled abroad for leisure in the past 12 months, with majority citing time and financial constraints as the main barriers. For the people who did travel abroad however, nearly four out of five intend to do so again in the next 12 months. Singapore was named as the top international city, with shopping, sightseeing, and experiencing different cuisines cited as the main reasons for travel.
Domestically, 73% of those surveyed have travelled in Myanmar within the past 12 months and more than four out of five people intend to do so again within the next 12 months. The top local cities of choice are Taunggyi, Mandalay and Pathein.
¡°Our latest survey data shows continued confidence across the developing markets in Southeast Asia. The result from Myanmar is one of the highest in the 20-year history of MasterCard¡¯s confidence survey in Asia Pacific.
This shows how the recent opening of the economy has created significant optimism which bodes well for the country¡¯s future,¡± said Matthew Driver, MasterCard¡¯s President for Southeast Asia,
Myanmar¡¯s travellers spend just over MMK200,000 (US$225) per person for domestic leisure trips, but six times a much for international trips.
