THE taxi had come to a sudden stop, having hit the back of a parked grey SUV. Both the doors on the left side of the taxi had been flung open,

and as Mr Alvin Chan looked on, two teenage boys were fleeing the vehicle. At first, they ran together along Guan Chuan Street in Tiong Bahru.

But after a short distance, one of them turned left and ran in a separate direction. The driver of the taxi got out and tried to give chase, but

gave up quickly. "They looked like they were running for their lives," said Mr Chan. "I didn't really notice what they were wearing as it happened

so quickly. I only remember that they were quite skinny. They looked like any average teenager." Mr Chan, 46, a salesman, had been woken by

the loud crash when the taxi hit the SUV. It happened at around 3am yesterday. Startled, he jumped out of bed and immediately went to the

window of his third-storey flat in Tiong Bahru. Seeing what had happened, Mr Chan then went downstairs. There, he learnt that the taxi driver,

who wanted to be known only as Mr Chan, had been threatened by the two teens with a penknife.
