13 speakers confirmed for May Day sequel protest at Hong Lim

The list of speakers for the Labour Day event on 1 May 2013 at 4pm C ¡®For a Better Singapore¡¯ has been confirmed, according to Gilbert Goh of Transitioning.org, the organizer for the event. The speakers consist of both individuals and prominent politicians, activists and bloggers. All of them feel for Singapore and want to have their say in many of the issues affecting Singapore.

The event is a sequel protest against the 6.9 million Population White Paper and other labour issues. In a way, it is also the first time a Labour Day event is organized outside of NTUC from the ground up through a citizens¡¯ movement.

The confirmed list of speakers:

Individual speakers

  • Robert Teh (66, retiree)
  • Raymond Yap (66, working C manager)
  • Vivian (27, single mum employed)
  • Darren Lai (42, married jobless graduate)
  • Toby Lim (33, physically challenged graduate underemployed)
  • Justina Yapp (47, stay at home mum with kids)

Each person will speak for about 10 minutes at the event in Hong Lim Park (Speakers¡¯ Corner).

There is a press conference for the May Day sequel protest event tomorrow (23 Apr) at 2pm:

Address: Passion Room
Blk 231, Bain Street, #04-41
Bras Basah Complex
23 Apr 2013 at 2pm

The event is truly a ground up citizens¡¯ movement with many individuals chipping in to help out the event one way or another. For example, the cost of 1,000 car decals to be given out free-of-charge was underwritten by an individual Singaporean. Gilbert told TR Emeritus (TRE)that the person believes that this movement is vital for Singapore¡¯s democracy. The person said that May 1st is a great opportunity for Singaporeans to speak from our hearts. For those who want the free car decal so as to help advertise the May Day event, please email Justina at hlpmov@gmail.com.

Speaking to TRE, Gilbert also took the opportunity to ask for volunteers or help with regard to the following for the May Day event:

1. Live band for pre-entertainment

2. Volunteers for marshalling

3. Drivers with cars for that day to ferry the disabled and others

Please contact Gilbert at gilbert@transitioning.org if you can help.
