New Cabby Driver

Hi all,

I already got my TDVL. But is hesitant to start because i am not familiar with quite many areas especially in town areas where traffic is one-way and no U-turn, and residential areas like Hougang, Sengkang, Punggol, Woodland etc. I hardly go to those areas.

Will it be a problem if i need to flip the directory for every destination?

I am aiming to join CDG.

Thanks!

Try not to use GPS from the start , if too rely on it u wont learn new places effectively.

The places u mentioned are Infact the easy street to ply .But yes CBD needs sometime to learn , place like ION no CBD , if charge pax u might kena lim kopi.

we have members here who grew up in hong kong and is now holding a sgp citizenship.
he read street directory whenever he is free and he remember every highway exits.
today, he is driving a merz limo that has zero error tolerance.

do you think your route knowledge can be worst than him if you were born here?

if you are not familiar of our route, the best timing to drive is night time becos
80% of the pax are going home and they can guide you along the way. :)

Thanks all for the reply. I think i will start of to drive night. I call up comfort. And this lady on the line tell me they will put my particulars on the system or database to help me look for a taxi. Then they will send me for training on how to use the machine inside? I like to ask the following:

1. Is the training to use the machine free?
2. Do they teach you how to use the NETS or VISA machine if the customers pay by card?

And most importantly....

3. Do i need to remember or calculate the ERP rate manually for every trip? Or is it i press one button, all the ERP and whatever surcharge are being calculated automatically? (The govt keeps adjusting the erp rates)...

Thanks.

that system inside the CDG cab is call MDT.

the training is free for all the CDG drivers and it includes nets and credit card transaction training too. (VISA is already out of the system)

you dont have to remember the ERP rate becos the meter will detect and add in the cost to the total fare at the end of the trip automatically. biggrin

good luck

Thanks Taxiuncle. I already called up Comfort.

Is there other quicker ways to find a hirer? Right now i am browsing through cabby.com.sg website only. Hard to find one that stays near me!

I actually found a hirer staying near me. He driving Chevrolet from Transcab. Is there any advices for Transcab company and is Chevrolet a problematic vehicle?

I think i have to think of the company diesel pump locations also? Thanks for your quick reply!

oh yeah, i have not pay the $1000 deposit yet, so no ID and PW. But CDG is quite fast. I sent an email in and within an hour, they email me a list of hirers staying around my area. But when i call those hirers (recently registered only), few of them already found relief drivers. Fast!

Any tips on night driving? I am particularly worried about after 9 or 10pm on weekdays when everyone have reached home and next day is a working day. How about timing like 2 to 5 am? Where to go find passengers? Go Clark quay to fetch those vomiting passengers? :-S Ply the street sure dun have.

Such questions must have been asked and answered countless times. Haha. If any of u kind enuff can direct me to the link/thread of discussion.

Thanks. If not i just search around more.

cdg has a driver's portal on it website to match make drivers who are looking for a hirer or a relief.

but first, you must register with CDG to get an ID and a PW to log-in.

for more info, you can go to http://www.cdgtaxi.com.sg/cabbies_drivewithus_hirer.mvn?cid=375578

for the driver's portal, you can try http://driver.cdgtaxi.com.sg/home.mvn

good luck and keep us inform...smile

when i was a FT cab driver, MBS casino was still under construction. so, 11pm - 3am, i Q at one raffles quay when the street is quiet like ghost town.

drivers are luckier today. you can go MBS to Q or one raffles Quay or some major commercial building when you see row of taxi queuing.

you can also push your contact to pax that needs regular pickup during the grave hour if you happened to pick one. biggrin

gd luck!

Ok, i have called all the numbers in the list given by Comfort, still can't find a hirer yet.

Comfort ask me to call back in 3 weeks to 1 month and check again. So long!

I hope seniors here can keep a lookout for hirers for me. Looking at Comfort, Hyundai Sonata.

Thanks a lot!
