RE: Taxi driving and wearing glasses

My advise is have very sufficient rest & sleep the day before the exam. you need high concentration to read the questions ASAP. all the best :)

regardless full time or part time, you still need to attend courses at night. I took up part time course as I was having a day job at that point of time. I was told that for full time course, the timing is 3~6pm, then 7~10pm, 2 sessions per day, 5 days per week. I took my course at woodlands depot. Not sure about others...

Hi NiteOwl, I've just passed my TDVL recently (06 Sep 2013). Yes, the course is quite tough as I attended the full time. Most questions are not too difficult except that you have to answer 50 question within the 1 hour for Module 1, 2 & 4. Module 3 only got 30 questions but that involved looking up info/landmark/building etc from the street directory. Module 1 & 2 is considered easy with 3 & 4 difficult. You need to practice with the street directory searching, recognising the symbol and category of the building/organisations/places of interest etc.

Module 4 mostly requires you to memorized the 40 route provided to you during the course.

Good luck with your course :))

Yes, Street directory is good but for an old man like me, they are just too small....my eyesight is bad and have presbyopia....and astigmatism....

Anyhow, after driving for about 9 months, I opened my hirer's street directory for the first time (his directory was even in the original shrink wrap.....LOL) when I could not figure out block 579 Hougang Street 51....as my Google map died on me.....LOL....

Most of the time, the street directory just sits there nicely and one of my hirers even did not have any street directory in his cab...HE SAID NEVER MIND LAH.....LOL.

So, it is a back up system...just make sure to have a few back up (and JOIN PALRINGO TU group and many members there are very helpful to guide you especially when you are new to this trade). There are tens of thousand of buildings, roads, direction that you probably never heard of before ......Good luck and drive safe.

For me the street directory is for show. Never use it.

When I was new , the MDT map is my good friend. (No GPS)

Updates TUs, TDs,

Praying hard and Igot the letter from LTA, open up and am winkbiggrinblehevileye

came with a few document on what's the next step... + IRAS letter blah blah

One step closer to be a cabby, got to go for medical, lessons, tests.

Some might wonder why would I want to consider taxi driving? Frankly speaking, I don't think I am very well verse with Singapore roads, getting to places? Yes I know, but remembering the name of the road maybe a problem..

Yup, I have a friend and a relative who drives a cab and from their sharing it seems to be a decent job, with discipline, diligence you are able to survive, seems to be betterthen what I am doing now.

Basically, I don't really earn a lot based on what I am doing now. 5 over years ago, my dad was struck with 2 strokes within 3months, a year later he suffered from cancer, went for all the treatments in 3months, doctor pronounced all is well, the cancer responded to the treatment. Whoknows, 3mths later during his check-up,there was a relapse.

Bo bian, due to hisold age, surgery was the only option left, plus not sure can he take the surgery or not, he was sentto Heart centre for test. Result was ok, he can withstand theoperation.

Operation lasted 8hrs+, after the operationhe was pretty much dependent on the family and is not until like 6mths later before he could move around on his on. Dad suffered for like 2yrs plus from the side effectof the operation before he fully recovered from it.

And it was not over yet, a year after his operation, he suffered from prostate enlargement + Herina.. so more operations. Allthat happen in a span of 5yrs, really a major over-haul for my dad.

Thank God, all is well for him now, but we also used quite a lot financially. blankstare

If God's willing, let me clear the upcoming hurdles. biggrin

Ok, good nite for now.

Thanks Bro Rom, not sure anyone has any sharing on this, took the SATA check except for BP, reading was abt 125/95 slightly on the high side, could be a busy day and lack of sleep.

So Dr say come back on Monday, then retake again.. Must taxi drivers really score a 120/80 and below??
