how u round off the fare?

hi all.. just started driving relief for my friend..

encountered this before and dunno is there any official rule for this..

say the fare is $8.88, how we are suppose to round off? go for $8.90?

cos many times some passengers take it as $8.80 and so just wondering how to calculate?

If you follow the kiasu (official ???) way, then : round down to nearest 5 cents : $8.88 >> supposed to collect $8.85.

In this case, I normally return $1.20 change for $10 note to avoid trouble.

But sometimes I see what is the easiest change to give back because nowadays people seldom bother about 5 cents either way.

So, example :

1. whether the change is 45 cents or 55 cents, I just give back 50 cents.

2. Fare is $9.05 or $8.95 >>> I return $1.00 change for $10 note.

(So far, no complaints. )

3. Fare is $8.10 >>> I return $2.00 change for $10 note.

But of course some pax might just say Keep the change.
