RE: 初体验TDVL Bros: Share your feel/ thoughts on your 1st day drive

thanks for the advice bro, i also realised this 3 things are the most common issues...
but really sometimes many people don't know how to be people (不会做人)

give and take is very important i guess... though some people insist on military style punctuality and discipline.... well, one kind of rice feed hundred kind of people...

but thanks for the advice, i will keep in mind. i have 45 more years of licence time to go, so, better to keep a good namesake...

Yes bro give and take , if u do more than swee swee , hirer is a understanding person he will return u the favor . This way relationship will last longer . Whenever my hirer go holiday he always tell me free rental for his shift , but I still pay him with discount rate of cuz.

He is not rich a working class also need to pay rent has mouth to feed too.

My mentality is i rather people owe me than I owe them .

My 1st day drive forgot to on meter for few mins.
Also forgot to remind pax on her bags in my boot while driving away picking up my next pax.

10 mins later, pax called me. And bags returned, she insisted $5 appreciation for me.

Yesterday was my first day. Officially start from 4pm in woodlands and ends at about 10.30pm in Hougang. Was sweeping the ground in woodlands but no pax, so decided to go zoo. Pick up 3 Hong Kong Tourist to AMK. They are my first customers. Was nervous though know how to go AMK, but dont know how to go exact location. They being tourists are not able to guide. So no choice have to depend on pass experience of the area try to find. Finally found.

So far most passengers quite nice will give direction, problem is when pick up foreigners, forget to on meter a few times. but nit much lost.

not sure where is CBD boundary and where can charge location surcharge.

Was able to cover 1 day rental and fuel. Only clock 165km.

Work hard tomorrow.

Daykov, you can get a CBD chart from SMRT CSC. Keep a copy handy in the car. If not sure, just ask on parlingo.

Why only 165km when you have to cover full day rental ?

As I mentioned, started late as have to do administrative like carpark season coupon. getting oriented to the vehicle and all the meter and MDT. Rested a little, plus nervousness and little procrastination . However, did cover rental. Anyone rental is free for collection day.

Hey davkou,

Well done. Exciting right? Forget to on meter, dun worry. You will automatic do it after a while. I am so used to it that sometimes, I see meter running, I oso can't remember when I on it. Haha..Dun forget to glance at the meter once in a while to make sure it is working!! Good luck.

You are right about glancing the taxi meter once a while. Once I had a booking and peak hour. I started the taxi meter. and about 3-4 mins after starting the journey, I check my MDT, it gives me a summary. I was curious so I take a glance at my meter, and realised that it has stopped. Not sure why. End up I restart the meter again. Now coming to think about it I should have press and hold a key to continue the meter instead of restarting it. Think it is K2 key.

First day driving. Kalang kabok. Don't know route. Use gps also can go wrong route. Resets meter as service recovery.

Can't find places etc. even forgot to on meter and don't know how to count to give change back. So gives discounts on the cents for easier changing. Act generous haha.

But after first day, totally fell in love with this career

No boss down ur neck for ur mistakes

No time cards to punch in and out

No colleagues to tongue wag when u take a nap

No subordinates to challenge u

Even with the best/worst passenger, it's only just tolerance for that trip

Short chats with chatty pax. Music for quiet pax.

Perfect scenario for my personality.

Time to tune my routine. It's still pretty random as I'm not disciplined lol

Hey AhBen, glad to know you like this job. I love this job too although I only drive weekends.

Yes, there is flexibility and freedom. However, you need a lot of self discipline. Drive means drive. No hanging out at coffee shops with buddies for hours.

Start at 6am punctually everyday, rain or shine. Because if you say, today want to sleep more, start at 7am. Very soon, tomorrow will start at 8 am and so on....Very easy to become lazy in this job...

To be able to sustain for long , either you need money badly, so no choice but carry on even though you get tired of it after a while. Or you really love to drive, meet people, move around to all kinds of places etc.

cos if it is due to no lousy bosses, no bad colleagues that you like this job, very soon all these will be forgotten. This job can become quite routine and boring after a while...
